Rest Beneficial as Molly Magne Wins The Mother Goose

The Mother Goose (Grade 2)- $250.000 Purse
BEL- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
June 30, 2018

Molly Magne is back in the winners circle! As a two year old, she seemed very promising, and began to deliver on that potential as this year began. However, her last two races were not as strong, and the Gdp Inc filly was needing to turn that around before it became a problem. After about two months of rest since finishing ninth in the KYO, Molly Magne was back on the track, and looking to recapture her winning ways. In the Mother Goose, she was able to do this, beating six others for the fourth win of her career. It is the first time that Gdp Inc wins the stake, continuing this race’s history of having a first time winner every year. M J Sanchez wins the race for the first time as well. The time of the victory was 1:41.93, the third quickest in the race’s history. Here is a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :23.63)- Exploding out of the gate would be the two horses on the outside, both Out Of Wedlock (D J C Racing Stables), and Line Drive (Our Athletes). Line Drive would not keep up an aggressive pursuit, allowing Out Of Wedlock to jump out to a length and a half advantage after a quarter mile. Did seem as though K Carmouche kept her from getting too carried away at the front end after the initial break. Behind her, and running with Line Drive for second, we would have our eventual winner, Gdp Inc’s Molly Magne as well as the runner up, Most Charming, from Mb Stables. Most Charming had the rail, but Molly Magne was in a good lane herself just to the outside of Out Of Wedlock. This Means War (John Henry) and Eponine (D J C Racing Stables) were another length back. It would be a gap of four to the trailer, Blue Jeans, but the First Class Stable filly is used to this.

(½ Mile- :47.35)- It is still Out Of Wedlock out in front, keeping a steady pace at the front end and leading by almost two. Sometimes, in these close virtual races, you have to look for subtle little things that may have made the difference in the result. In the second quarter mile, Molly Magne extended her lead on Most Charming to a length and a half. Remember, these two were side by side a little earlier. This seemed to be a product more of Most Charming backing off ever so slightly, but she would be fighting to regain that distance later. Line Drive also conceded an additional length, while This Means War and Eponine were joining the pack. Blue Jeans trailed by seven and a half.

(Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Early in the turn, Out Of Wedlock continues to lead, but midway through, she could hear Molly Magne getting closer. On exit of the turn she was pulling up aside her, and she would catch her at the top of the stretch. Most Charming began her advance at the same time as did Molly Magne, which was good if she only wanted to pass Out Of Wedlock, but still had to find a way to gain a length on Molly Magne, who was looking strong. Eponine was moving forward here as well, and moved to within a length of Most Charming as the trainer hoped his entries could swap places for the stretch. Line Drive was coming up empty. This Means War looked for a lane, but it didn’t seem as though a hard push was coming from her. Blue Jeans now trailed by five.

(Finish- 1:41.93)- In the stretch, Molly Magne made it look rather easy. Once she passed Out Of Wedlock, there was never another challenge, and all that was left was to watch her run to the wire and score a win for Gdp Inc, who had a strong day, overall. Most Charming never really did mount a bid on her, and struggled to get by Out Of Wedlock. She would, but she would also be caught at the wire by Eponine, who had a good race for herself. Those two dead heat for third. Out Of Wedlock barely hangs on to fourth over the hard closing Blue Jeans, who simply ran out of race track. This Means War and Line Drive finish the running order.

About The Winner: Molly Magne, trained by Gdp Inc and ridden to victory by M J Sanchez, is a three year old filly by Charlemagne, and is out of Miss Molly. She was bred in New York by Gdp Inc as a first quarter two year old, and they have been together throughout! Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in 12 starts, and it is her third stake win, and second graded. Her career earnings are now $438.760.
