The Hedeman Mile – NG
2/23/20
SUN Race 6 1M – Dirt
Purse $100.000
Three Year Olds NM Breds
Seven New Mexico bred sophomores are lining up to take a crack at this years running of the Hedeman Mile here at Sunland Park. One stakes winner and some stakes placed runners are lining up in here. Let’s take a look at the field.
1. Heat (5-1-0-1 $14.680), trained by John Henry
First runner in the field here and well he has been getting beat pretty soundly in all of his starts since his maiden win. He was beaten bad in the NM Classic Juvenile and then ran near last in an allowance race last out. He looks outclassed unless he is a monster around two turns.
2. Coors (3-1-0-2 $14.540), trained by T Boy Racing
First runner in the field for me and he ran pretty well in his last start against first level allowance runners going a mile and an eighth. He was off meters that day and still ran pretty good. He has earned a shot in here but I do not know if he is good enough to win it.
3. Lil Pink Panther (6-1-2-1 $24.730), trained by Hawaiian Shirt Guy
Next up is a recent maiden winner around two turns in a New Mexico bred maiden special weight. He ran pretty good in there and it is a good thing for him that he does like the route of ground. He could jump up and steal this race.
4. Heza Storm (3-1-1-0 $39.050), trained by Greeko Holdem
First for Greeko Holdem here at he ran second in the stake before this which was the Rivers Stakes. He ran well that day but the way he finished it didn’t look like he would love the stretch out in ground but he is a good runner. I think he has a good shot to win this.
5. Start The Engine (8-1-3-2 $135.000), trained by Axeman
Now to this horse who has been knocking on the door in these statebred stakes with two seconds and a third in them. In sprint races he usually runs like he wants more ground but his two route starts have not been very good. He could jump up and win this but he’ll have to run huge.
6. Poker In The Rear (8-1-5-0 $68.320), trained by Greeko Holdem
Second runner for Greeko Holdem and he is coming out of that same first level allowance with Coors and he was one better that day finishing second. He likes to close so a quick pace will definitely help him out but I’m afraid he is starting two run second too often. He could win for sure.
7. Inoubliable (4-2-2-0 $87.880), trained by T Boy Racing
Last runner in the field and second for me and he is definitely my better entry. He won the Rivers Stakes last out by a length and he seemed like he was pulling away late. Tough post and first time going around two turns but I think he will handle the trip just fine.
Summary
Well it is another race that is tough to pick a heavy favorite because most of them are not really tested around two turns. I think Inoubliable looks the best in here but he definitely has a tough post and first time going long to overcome. Good luck to all in the field.
