Royal Prodigy Looks Super in Derby

Super Derby – Grade II
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $400.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

1st Royal Prodigy, trained by Mb Stables

This was a breakthrough win for this son of Inspector Jacques after running some decent races without success against some of the best of his age group. Keeping the leaders nicely in his sights he quickened up and won with a bit in hand by a length. An improving sort I will be keeping an eye on him as the winter approaches.

2nd Viking Shield, trained by Delta Farms

I was good to see this former TC hopeful run so well after a few poor efforts since his AR Derby win. In the trail early he ran on strongly to be second and it did make me wonder whether a BC Marathon entry might be on the cards.

3rd Cape Canaveral, trained by Sanny Village

This was another consistent effort from the gelding earning another pay check against his age group and confirming himself amongst the top twenty of his age group. Keeping on well enough he looked a little one paced again at the sharp end of the race and that may be the one thing that has been stopping him winning more races.

4th Lincoln, trained by Serenity Stables

Naturally enough the wide speed push put him on the lead and naturally enough that same wide speed push saw him weaken over the closing stages. Whether it was the race engine or the trainer who decided this course of action we may never know but he is better than this and shouldn’t be written off with a better draw.

5th Pink Devil

Raced an early stalk but fell away tamely

6th Ironbound Coonazz

Never really got involved

7th Malibu Beach

Never really got involved

8th Newbie Rider

The big disappointment of the race he clearly disagreed with his recent gelding operation
