Sars Looks Healthy in Winning Remsen

The Remsen (Grade 2) (KYD)- $250.000 Purse
AQU- For Two Year Olds
One Mile and One Eighth on the Dirt
December 7, 2019

After the running of The Remsen, there is certainly no questioning that Aer Stables is positioned quite nicely for the KYD, having the BC Juvenile winner, Brittle, and now Sars, who continues to look like a very healthy contender in his own right. This gelding by Dignified is now a winner of three out of his four races, having also won the Nashua here last month. His lightly raced season should bode well for him as we move into the spring prep race season. This is the first time that Aer Stables has won The Remsen, and that is also true for A Beschizza, the winning rider. Congratulations to them! The time of the win 1:48.29. Time to look at it!

(½ Mile- :47.48)- Hollywood Hero jumps out to the early lead for Nakamura Stables, and shows the way around opening turn, leading by about a length. However, towards the end of the turn, the Mb Stables’ trained Groovy was not content with running behind the leader, and completed the pass for the lead, and it would be him in front at half a mile. Hollywood Hero remained second, and within half a length. Our eventual winner, Sars, ran patiently on the rail for Aer Stables, in the third position, and two lengths off the pace. Groovy’s stablemate, Tephra, ran right to his outside. The middle of the field saw a three wide group, with Anoush Command in the money lane for Serenity Stables, The Mist (Rampage Stable) between horses, and High One (Gdp Inc) on the rail. It’s another length to Drift Line (Estero Farms) and Neighboorhood Hero (D J C Racing Stables); another two to Red Divos Alliance (TwinTowersRacing) and Yankee Doodle Dandy (John Henry), and Hollywood Revolution (Langley Farms) was the early trailer.

(3/4 Mile- 1:11.15)- The field completes the backstretch run and moves midway into the turn without any major changes happening. Groovy maintained his advantage on Hollywood Hero, and Sars was content to hold his lane in a stalking position on the rail. Anoush Command was starting to show more interest with an outside move. Other then that, not much new to report.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Pretty much right after they hit the six furlong marker, the switch went off for several different horses. Groovy still led, but was now feeling the heat much more from his rivals. Sars moved off the rail out of necessity on exit of the turn, and moved into second position, just ahead of Hollywood Hero and right on the bumper of Groovy. Anoush Command was making a strong move to the outside, and Tephra was not going to go down without a fight either. The two of them had just under two lengths to make up themselves. The Mist looked to make a six wide move, but had a little more ground to make up. High One still ran okay, but had been left behind by a couple he had been running with,. Meanwhile, Neighborhood Hero seemed as though he was about to make a move at this point. Others were running out of time to do so.

(Finish- 1:48.29)- The best two horses in the stretch would become Sars and Anoush Command, but credit is to be given to Groovy who hung in there with a fight. Sars on the inside and Anoush Command on the outside shaped up to be a good one, and it would be Sars having a little more in the stretch to get up and get the win. Anoush Command gets second, but didn’t take a closer run at Sars like it was seemed as if had been developing. Groovy just misses the headbob for the place photo. The Mist ran great in the stretch, but his outside trip was tough. Still, it’s a fourth place check. Tephra is fifth, ahead of High One and Neighborhood Hero getting the better of Hollywood Hero by a nose. Yankee Doodle Dandy, Red Divos Alliance, Drift Line, and Hollywood Revolution never got involved.

About The Winner- Sars, trained by Aer Stables, and ridden to victory by A Beschizza, is a two year old gelding by Dignified, and is out of H One. He was bred in New York by Aer Stables as a second quarter two year old, the only trainer for which he has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in four starts, and his second graded win. His career earnings are now $250.080.
