Pep Stakes
6 furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $20.00 Fillies Three-Years-Old. At FON
Pep Stakes was introduced in 2009 as a $15.00 race but didn’t return until 2015 when it became a yearly event. This is its first year at $20.00, As you can imagine there have been not many rich horses winning this race. Only one four-figure career in its history, Ollies’ Gottahotone with earnings of $1,511.82 and there was one winner, Nynl Stables’ Brilliant Spirit with lifetime earnings of $10.36. Today’s race looks to be between three promising sprinters: Sweating Bullets, Smoochi and Dipstick not that there isn’t talent behind them that could take it all if any of them falter. Here’s the field:
Horse Owner Odds SRF
Sweating Bullets Panionios Racing *6-5 92.
Smoochi Acber Farms 7-5 89
Dipstick The Sidley Stud 2-1 95
Izzys Little Girl The Sidley Stud 3-1 91
Dervish And Banges Delta Farms 6-1 90
Poor Road The Sidley Stud 8-1
Death Command Paradise Stable 20-1
After winning at second asking in a mile turf race at BTP, Poor Road traveled to the free side and ran third in The Wide Country Stakes at LRL at seven furlongs on dirt. An interesting strategy that may help her in this race.
2 Dervish And Banges Delta Farms 90
Dervish And Banges broke her maiden locally in her third start in comfortable fashion at a very short four-furlong sprint.
3 Dipstick The Sidley Stud 95
Dipstick, the best of The Sidley Stud entries, has placed in two of three stakes tries and finished third in the $24.00 Cactus Flower Handicap at TUP against older and earned a race high last race SRF 95 in doing so.
4 Sweating Bullets Panionios Racing 92
Sweating Bullets returns to stakes racing after a trip to TAM where she won an $18.72 overnight allowance race. Prior to that she won the $45.00 Shesastonecoldfox at FL and looks the most consistent at this level. I look for her to make it three in a row.
5 Izzys Little Girl The Sidley Stud 91
Izzys Little Girl has won two of three starts, all in State Bred races at MNR. Her last start was an impressive come from off the pace victory at a mile in a $17.00 allowance race.
6 Smoochi Acber Farms 89
Smoochi has won the largest purse of this field in the $125.00 Sandpiper Stakes at TAM. That was the fourth race of her life and her third win. She has slowed a little, but not that much as her last race was a third in a TAM allowance race. She should make it close with Sweating Bullets.
7 Death Command Paradise Stable
Death Command took four races at the low level to win and now steps directly into a stakes race.
