Seven in Doubledogdare (GIII) at KEE – Preview

4/17/2015 Post Time 6:05

RACE 1 KEE   Doubledogdare Stakes (GIII)

$100.00   4yo&Up F&M     1 1/16   Dirt

Seven ladies will be headed to the post around 6:05 on Friday evening as we look at the field for the 2015 Dobuledogdare Stakes (GIII) to be run at a mile and a sixteenth on the famed KEE dirt oval.

I’m giving the edge to Dignity here today. She won her first two ’15 starts and I really believe she would have taken that last race if not for the muddy track. If she gets a fast track, look out, it could be over fast. Let’s put the class Orange Cedar in the second spot. I’m not happy about her recent tiring efforts, but this is a bit of a break from what she’s been facing and it may be the perfect spot to her back into the winner’s circle. Let’s round out the tri with Christmas Venture. She’s lightly raced but certainly has shown ability, and I think she will continue to get better and better.

Here’s the Field….

1   Humerous Star            Nakamura Stables          Santana R Jr                       123

Nice Alw win at FG last out to get back on the right side of things. She hadn’t seen the winner’s circle since being purchased at the Feb ’14 Auction for $45.01 and didn’t see it at all in the ’14 season. Nice work at AQU getting ready for today so she could be around for part of this one.

2   Dignity                            Threshold                          Borel C H                            123

A win and a third from her two seasonal starts and I think she could have improved last out if not for the wet surface, which I don’t think is her best footing. She was a close-up second in the Hirsch (GI) last season, so you know she has some ability and some class. Give her a serious look here.

3   Spiritual Luck               NorthernTraderStable Geroux F                            123

Kicked off ’15 with a win at SA last out going a flat mile. She was fourth in this race last season, only beaten a length, so you have to think this is her cup of tea. Nice bullet work here on 4/13 and she looks ready to fire big.

4   Orange Cedar               Joseph Racing                  Albarado R J                      123

Beat one in the Inisde Information (GII) at GP last out, in what could only be described as one of her less thrilling tries. She had two nice starts to kick-off the ’15 season, including a narrow loss i the Santa Maria (GII) at SA.

5   Defensive Pessimism     Mb Stables                   Bridgmohan S X               123

Back-to-back wins at PRX v Opt horses, so they jump back into graded foes. She was last of six in the Long Island Hcp (GIII) but that was on the grass and at the marathon distance. This seems to be more to her liking and she should give a bang-up effort here.

6   Garfield Dancer          Iwin Enterprise                Velazquez J R                   123

Sold for $50.00 at the Mar ’15 Auction after closing out ’14 with a last-placed effort in the La Brea (GI) at SA. She won the Ashland (GI) over this course last year, so bringing her back here may be a smart move, but I’ll look at some others.

7   Christmas Venture    Tirstar Stables                  Bravo J                                 123

DH for third in the Bayakoa (GIII) at OP last out in her first stakes effort. Nothing to be ashamed of there, and with only five starts, her best days are probably in front of her. Not thrilled with the post draw, but she has some tactical speed and may be able to overcome it for a minor share.
