Seven sophomore fillies will be headed to the gate on Sunday afternoon and we look at the field for The Ruthless, a seven furlong extended sprint on the main track.  I’m going to go with Just A Dream as my top selection in this one, as I think she holds a class advantage and that may be enough to get the win here today.  She was second (DH) at GP last out and made a nice late move in that one.  I’ll go to the far outside and take Five Grand Girl as my second choice.  She’s another that ran a nice race last out, third beaten a length at LA, going a mile.  She also closed well late in that one, so look for her to be a huge factor in the late stages today.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Mafia    Sharis Stables    Bahen S R   122   5/1

Broke maiden over this surface back in Nov and came back to be a tiring fourth at TAM in the Sandpiper after setting the pace in that race.  She was only beaten a length and should certainly draw some interest in this field.

2
   Mental    Arindel    Juarez N   122   6/1

Broke maide at LA last out and now makes her ’21 debut vs. stakes horses.  She got the win vs. CA-bred company so this is certainly a step up in class.  She showed good speed in that last out win, so maybe she upsets the apple cart here today.

3
   Dimes    D J C Racing Stables    Lezcano J   122   4/1

Back-to-back wins to close out her ’20 season, both at FL.  She broke maiden with a nice closing run, then came back to take down Alw horses, showing front-running speed in that race.  I’m not sure which tactic they will go with today, but she looks like a nice one and certainly has room to improve.  Give her a look.

   Just A Dream    Paradise Stable    Cancel E   122   3/1

Her maiden and only win came in her first start, taking MSW types at TUP.  Since then, it’s been close but no cigar as she has closed to be competitive in a number of stakes races.  She was seventh in the DMR Debutant, but only beaten a length, and this certainly looks to be softer than that race and a number of others. Could this be her spot?

5
   Bronx Belle    Arindel    Franco M   122   7/1

She won two of her first three races and since then it’s been an up-hill battle.  She’s been close in a number of stakes and Alw type races, but she’s just not close enough to put money in the bank.  Can she find a bit more to get in the middle of one of these or is it another long day at the office?

6
Spirit World    Sting Racing    Carmouche K   122   6/1

She was rolling along doing well vs. WV-bred horses, then she went to FLA and the result was certainly not what the barn wanted.  Last of nine while tiring in the late stages of that GP stakes race, and now she moves north to face similar.  She needs to turn that around or it may be a similar outcome.

7
Five Grand Girl    Fractious    Davis D   122   4/1

Broke maiden at first asking down at ELP and has been close in all of her other starts, including a Cal-bred stake at LA in her most recent effort.  She closed well that day to only be a length behind the winner and while she catches the outside post, but if she can find room late, she may be a big factor as they head towards the wire.
