Seven Three-Year-Olds Hope to “Carry Back” Some Cash

Carry Back Stakes ($75.000 Purse)

7F on Dirt for Three Year Olds

July 10th, 2021 at GP

The 6th running of the Carry Back will see seven three year old hopefuls break the gate. With none of them being stakes winners against open company and only one a state bred stakes winner, they’ll all look for this to springboard their career in 2021. The field:

#1 – Walk The Moon (Greyfriars Stable) – Winner of a State Bred Stakes in La, this gelding has struggled mightily against every graded stakes field he’s tested. Thought train times suggest correct placement, it’s difficult to like a horse who fails to compete as often as this one.

#2 – Sauna (Mb Stables) – Likely class of the field, missed a major allowance score at CD by a neck last try. Two back this gelding was a disappointing fourth against stakes company as the 1/2 favorite. Still, finishing top two in 5 of 7 attempts, this one is likely the one to beat here.

#3 – Sunset Limited (Nynl Stables) – A Colt that has done better against low end competition comes looking for a stakes win. With a much improved mile time in a span of two weeks, perhaps a change in adds, or tactics will get this one closer to a win.

#4 – Violative (La Rosa Stables) – Posting back to back 93 speed figures, this Colt out of Aggravation seems to be on the improve and hopes to score a stakes win after an opportunistic allowance win at LS.

#5 – Safe Investment (Mb Stables) – Second entry by Mb Stables is a horse that has been first or second in all three of its races this year. Perhaps looking to capitalize on a short, soft field and score a stakes win.

#6 – Cest Decimal (D J C Racing Stable) – Dom brings in a Colt who has already raced 6 times this year, finishing on the board in five of those. This horses Sire, Decima, is notorious for late blooming talent- perhaps this is the break out race?

#7 – Let’s Celebrate (Riggins Racing) – After struggling to break maiden, dropping to a $2.10 MSW to exit the division, this horse enters the Carry Back after a 1:37 mile time. Perhaps the win helps the horse turn a foot in the right direction?

Jive’s Prediction

In a field that lacks a standout, with horses showcasing works tight to each other- I am going to take Cest Decimal to edge out Violative at the wire, with Sauna setting for a third. But any order of outcomes in this one wouldn’t shock me.

Jive’s Selection: 6-4-2-1
