Shake It Daddy Looks for Repeat in Hettinger Stakes

The Hettinger Stakes, Purse $125.000, Ungraded, One Mile and 1/8th, Turf for Fillies 3+

Today at Belmont there are back to back overnight stakes going a mile and 1/8th on the turf. One of those is for the males, but this one is for the females. 5 horses look like they will enter the starting gate to try and take a shot at a stakes victory. Let’s take a look at the field and see if we can separate some of these runners :

1-The Generals Out (Hambletonian Stables)- She has raced 26 times with 8 career wins which include several overnight stakes and a Grade 1 victory back in her 2 year old season. She comes into this race off a nice win in a similar type race at Saratoga where she was carrying the same weight as she is today. Off that win and the workouts she has posted in the morning this has to be one that you look at when picking a winner here.

2-Midwest Metal (MB Stables)- She has raced 4 times to date with 3 of those being wins which include her last 3 starts. Each win she has stretched out a bit further with her last race coming at a mile and 1/16th over the turf at Saratoga in an OC race where she was pulling away from the field. She appears to have come out of that race very well and posted several nice workouts in the morning, which is showing me that the horse is getting better each time she races. She is carrying 6 less pounds then the horse to her inside, could this be enough?

3-Jodies In The Haas (Canadian Racing)- She has raced 11 times and has won 2 of those races. She was claimed for $20.000 out of her last start where she finished 2nd. He last win was her first start of 2015 where she won an allowance race going today’s distance.. Since that race she went up the class ladder and then back down and has yet to find her friends. Maybe the change in ownership will help wake this horse up and get her back to the winners circle.

4-Shake It Daddy (The Sidley Stud)- She has run 18 times with 3 of those being wins. One of those wins came in this race last year. Since that win she has been able to win just 1 race and that came earlier this year at TUP in an allowance race. She has been consistent since that race not missing the board in her 4 starts since with 3 2nds and a 3rd. She has posted no public works since the last race so I can’t tell if she is ready for a step up in class again to be a repeat winner. But offer win last year she has to be one that you look at as a contender.

5-Caricature Flame (Twin Towers Racing) A lot of horses in here are stepping up in class, this one is taking a large drop. 2 races back she ran and won a Grade 2 race at Saratoga going a half furlong shorter than today’s race. She was then stepped up to Grade 1 company where she ran 4th of 4 8 lengths behind the winner. Out of her last race she has not worked well which is why I think you see the drop here. The problem is she will have to carry 126 pounds against some horses who look like they are on the improve.

This a interesting race today going long on the turf with a lot of horses who are trying to take the next step up the class ladder. Here is my prediction. 2-1-4-3
