Shake It Up Did Just That in The Funny Cide

It seems the great state of New York is definitely a love for this juvenile, as he wins back to back affair here in restricted events in just the past 33 days capturing this years $200.000 Funny Cide.

  • The Funny Cide – Purse $200.000
  • Saratoga Race Course – For Two year olds Foaled in NY.
  • Six and one half Furlongs

The group The Car’s wrote ” Dance all night, play all day/ Don’t let nothin get in the way” seems appropriate for this juvenile as once again he finds waiting till the right moment to make his move and let nothing stand in “his” way was the order of the day!

Coming off his maiden victory over this very track just last month, trainer Fractious took a big swing with some major moves in the areas of gelding and the addition of Lasix. Now while the betting public made him post time favorite in his past four events, these changes scared many of them off for this affair as he was let go as a 21-1 longshot come post time. He has five starts this season since late April and he is making the most of it. Watch for him to move up in class next time out and I am sure his trainer will be singing songs like that’s ” Just What I Needed” and ” Let the Good Times Roll ” when this one repeats in his future.

Placing runner-up would be Night Rider StablesBig Belly Jockey. Having a narrow lead with a sixteenth of a mile to run ahead of post time favorite and early front runner Mystery ( Allinthegate), the duo would try to hold off the late charge of the eventual winner, but to no avail. This was Big Belly Jockey’s second effort at a win since his geld, and has had to settle for runner-up efforts in both. Knowing Raj, he will have him placed well for his next affair, and a visit to the winners enclosure is soon to come.

Coming off his victory in the $100 Violette event last month, it looked like Mystery and Johnny V wanted to shut down this party early and send everyone home disappointed. The black colt set down fractions of 22 and four and 45 and 3 for the opening two quarters and was hoping that no one was going to challenge him for this title, but the outcome was not what he or his trainer hoped for here. They drop one spot with earnings for this seasons BC Juvenile as the winner here jumps ahead. Still plenty of time for everyone.

Rounding out this event in order of finishes were Mb Stables entry mates American Jammer ( 3-1) and Hang Around ( 12-1) who were both trying their first stakes event, and at the end would place 4th and 5th respectively, separated by a mere one one hundreds of a second in the photo. Sixth place would go La Canada Racehorses Personal Beliefs ( 12-1) who has placed a length shy in his past three starts. He visited the nutcracker following this affair, so lets see his future progress.

Seventh through ninth would be Lake Success ( D J C Racing Stables ), Mini Me ( Aer Stables ) and finally Feral Storm ( Smokey Stover ).
