7 SAR NY Stallion Series – Liberty

The NY Stallion Series continues to pay well for those smart enough to breed in the Empire State, and we look at a nice field of six sophomores fillies set to go a mile and a sixteenth on the inner grass at The Spa in the NY Stallion Series – Liberty. I think it’s hard not to give Must Be Joking the nod today… after a win vs. open stakes company she gets and additional two pound impost, but I don’t think that’s enough to slow her down here. If she does slip up for any reason, I’ll look for Floral to pick up the pieces as she just never seems to run a bad race and was a runner-up in that open stakes at PIM. This is a nice group of horses and I’d give them all a shot, which is odd for these state bred stakes where we often have dead-chalk and some others… this is “come and get it”.

Back to Back wins and three wins from her last four starts with the only non-win being a sixth in the Santa Ynes (GII) vs. some of the best in her generation. She has a ton of ability and this looks like a good spot for her. Give her a big look and a big chance here today.

Tired at WO last out while facing Alw company at today’s distance. She won vs. NY-bred OptAlw horses prior to that over the BEL grass. She could be part of this one but there a few others that I like better. She will need her best.

Must Be Joking | Night Mare Racing | Davis D | 124 | 7/5 |
She sure does look tough in this one today. Broke maiden at LS two back, then won the Open Mind over a soggy MTH turf course, so it looks like she has the race-horse thing figured out. She’s back on short rest and doesn’t have an am gallop to show since that last out victory, but she seems to be the one to beat today.

Broke maiden two back over a yielding BEL sod, then was third vs. similar at the same distance/course in the NYS Stakes Joy. She was closing in late in that stakes, so the distance here might just be what the doctor ordered. Don’t ignoe her.

She just doesn’t run a bad race, on the board in every start including a nice second at PIM in the Milkmaid, then just missed vs. NY-bred OptAlw horses last out at BEL. She had the lead in that one, only to get nailed on the wire… she will need a bit more here today.

Back-to-back wins coming into this one, taking OptAlw horses at BEL, then wining up north at WO, in wire-to-wire fashion. She’s another that needs to be given serious consideration today as she’s always in the middle of it and seems to be on her toes right now.
