Six Sophomores in The Discovery Handicap

AQU 3 The Discovery Hcp (GIII)

           $200.00 3yo 1 1/8m Dirt Hcp weights

Sophomores will be getting after it on Saturday and we take a look at the field for the 2019 The Discovery Hcp (GIII) to be run at the mile and an eighth distance, here at The Big A. Rare are the times that all of our handicappers agree but none of us could get off of Brady Is A Lady in this one. He won over this strip and at today’s distance in that last out win in the Empire Classic and looks ready to do it again today. If he doesn’t fire, Mercedes Benz looks ready to go full GLK on ‘em and could be a tough foe. If he can run back to that Haskell (GI) race or even his win in the Super Derby (GIII), then look for him to be a huge factor late.

 Here’s The Field –

5/1

Very consistent type that has been on the board in six of seven seasonal starts. Only one win, coming against FL bred types down at GP, but he’s usually sniffing around when the money is handed out. This appears to be a tougher field than he’s been seeing, but I’d still give him a shot at a minor share of this one.

 Ortiz I Jr

Broke maiden and hasn’t looked back – three wins in a row and he seems to be ready to take on the world. He’s never seen stakes company, but maybe if nobody tells him, he won’t know the difference. Solid works leading up to today so he seems ready to run his best.

 Dab Ney

 BomBay Stables

 Landeros C

10/1

Has been on the board in eight of ten seasonal starts, but many of those have been at MNR/PEN, so he not only steps up in class but in cash. I like his closing style and he certainly is a game horse, it’s just a matter of can he run at this level.

 Brady Is A Lady

 Sharis Stables

 Lezcano J

5/2

Classy rascal has put some serious cash away this season winning the Peter Pan (GIII) back in the spring and taking the Empire Classic last out. He has faced some of the best horses of his generation and has nothing to be ashamed of in any of those contests. He must be considered in this one.

5

 Hindenburg Tour

 Nakamura Stables

 Cancel E

10/1

On the board in five of his seven seasonal starts and had back to back wins back in the summer. He’s never really done much when facing this kind of competition, and will need his best for a minor share here.

6

 Mercedes Benz

 First Class Stable

 Cabrera D

3/1

Three wins this season and only off of the board one time while facing some really nice horses. Tired late in the OK Derby (GIII) last out after setting the pace in most of that affair. Won the Super Derby (GIII) and just missed in the Haskell (GI) so you know he can be very tough in this one. Don’t leave him off of any tickets.
