Six to Run in Melair Stakes

back but Stakes – $150.000

SA – Dirt – 1 ½ Mile

For Fillies Three Years Old Foaled in CA

May 28, 2023

My picks in this race, Water Demon and Bravo My Beast, are stakes winners with a gap of off-the-board finishes after that. Both should benefit from the softer spot, but neither have some close to running this far.

Here’s the field:

1 Water Demon
Owner: Chili King Stables

Won the Island Stakes three back but couldn’t hit the board in the Fantasy or the CA Oaks after that. She has never run beyond 1 1/16 mile, so distance has to be a question.

2 Bravo My Beast
Owner: Waldo

Her record looks a lot like Water Demon’s. Won the ungraded Busnanda three back, then finished seventh in back-to-back graded stakes. Should like this spot a lot better. She’s won at 1 1/8 mile so she looks a little better for the distance.

3 Oh Stages
Owner: Night Rider Stables

Coming in off a maiden claimer win. Class and distance are question marks for this filly. But that could be said for several in here.

4 Cynosure
Owner: Night Rider Stables

Not much to recommend this filly. She hasn’t hit the board in her last four starts. Big step up for this one.

5 Proud Passion
Owner: South Shore Stables

Hasn’t hit the board since a maiden win in January. Will take a big effort to get a piece of this purse.

6 Nijinsky
Owner: Team 7 Illusions

Maiden win in January. Claimed last out in a third-place performance. Another one that needs to really step it up to win here.

Picks: 1-2
