Six To the Gate for ET Mint Julep

6/5/22

4   CD    ET Mint Julep Handicap (GIII)

$200.000    F&M 4yo&Up     1 1/16m Turf       Hcp Weights

I’m more of a Blanton’s man, but…  The ladies head over to the Twin Spires turf course on Sunday for the ET Mint Julep Hcp (GIII), going a mile and a sixteen on the famed Louisville grass and I’m headed to the inside post and Loihi as my top pick.  She’s just the picture of consistency and the rail tells me she can use her tactical speed to score today.  I’m headed to the other end of the gate and gave Lipsticker a shot in this one.  She closed well over this track last out and the extra half-furlong should give her the distance she needs to be right there.  You can make a case for any number of these… let’s see how it plays out.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Loihi    Martyparty    Hernandez C J   121    8/5

She’s about as solid as you can want a horse to be… 2-1-1 from four starts this year and she’s been running very well vs. graded horses.  Same last year, knocking down four wins and missing the board one time.  She’s your post time favorite, in my eye.

2
Rebel Girl    Marijane Racing Stab    Landeros C   119   SCR

Scratched

3
Saddle Up    Our Athletes    Murrill M   119   6/1

Hasn’t won a race in quite a while, but had four wins last season, so she certainly has some back class.  I guess the question is, can she find some of that old magic or is it another long day at the race track?  I think she can be around for part of it.

4
   Inquisition    Arindel    Gutierrez R   117   9/2

Another that hasn’t had her picture taken in quite some time, but she has been close in a number of races and just a bit more would land her a big win.  Can she find that today and make a splash?

5
   Marner    Mb Stables    Rocco J S Jr   118   8/1

Made it win number two this season taking down OptAlw types at TAM in her most recent, and she’s been on a steady diet of one-mile turf races since switching over to the big barn.  She’s won three of five starts for Mb, so give her a big look today.

6
   Lipsticker    Our Athletes    Gaffalione T   118   8/1

Kicked off the season with a nice win on the TAM turf vs OptAlw types, then was third vs similar on the GP sod before a closing fourth place finish in the CD Distaff Turf Mile (GIII) in her most recent.  Another like that would probably put her in the hunt.
