Small But Talented Field of Four Go to Post in Lang Stakes

The Lang Stakes, Purse $100.000, Ungraded, 6 Furlongs , Dirt for 3 year olds

This great racing weekend for 3 year old colts is not only for the routers. Here is another Preakness under-card race for 3 year old colts sprinting. There is a nice field of four signed on for this second installment of the Lang Stakes. Lets meet the field.

1-Mazula Ruler (D J C Racing Stables)- This is a recent $200.000 purchase by D J C Racing Stables from Riggins racing. Mazula Ruler started his career off going 3 for 3 including an overnight stakes win at CRC in July of 2014. Since that win Mazula Ruler has hit the board in 3 of 4 stakes starts with a second and two thirds. Mazula Ruler seems to be training well coming into the race with a 112 flat 6F track B on May 12th at BEL. Can this horse get back on the winning track after the owner change…..It looks like he may make the jump, but we will see on Saturday.

2-Plectrum (PJR Farms)- Is coming into the race off a sharp OC win at PIM in April of 2015. This former breeders cup Juvenile turf runner seems to have found a home sprinting on the dirt after spending the middle part of his young racing career being spent routing on turf. Plectrum has class and is graded stakes placed finishing second in a Grade 2 race on turf in September of 2014. Plectrum’s works coming into this race look very good including a 59 second 5F track B on May 2nd. This horse also looks like he could be ready to step up and get himself a coveted stakes win.

3-Blind Danzig (MM Stables)- Has won two of his eight starts and is stakes placed finishing third in an overnight stake in January of 2015. Blind Danzig knows where his home is and that is sprinting on the dirt as that is where all of his starts have been. It has been a while since Blind Danzig has hit the winners circle, October 2014 and he will be looking to turn the corner in this short but tough field. Blind Danzig did have a bullet work going 5F in 57 4/5 with a jock up on May 4th. Could this work be a sign of what is going to happen on Saturday…time will tell.

4-Sit and Suffer (Night Rider Stables)- This has proven to be a very useful $7.000 claim for owner Night Rider Stables. Since he has picked up Sit and Suffer he has moved him up the class ladder with his most recent effort being an impressive win at SA in a N1x race in April of 2015. This will be Sit and Suffers first chance in a stakes race and after that last performance I can see why he was moved here. His works leading into the race don’t give me any indication he is slowing down….can he keep up the winning ways while taking another step up the class ladder…time will tell.

This is a small field but I feel that there are some talented runners in here that could have bright futures sprinting. You have back class runners and horses that are stepping up, which make this a tough race to handicap. However that is what I have to do, I am going with a 4-1-2-3 finish. Until next time may all your photo finishes be winning ones!
