Small Field for Wide Open Stall Memorial Stakes on FG Turf

2/19/22

   6    FG    Stall Memorial Stakes

$100.000     4yo&Up F&M     1 1/16m Turf    123 pounds +penalties

Five Fillies and Mares will be headed to the FG grass on Saturday afternoon for the Stall Memorial Stakes, a mile and a sixteenth turf test.  Summers Day looks like the class of this one, but the six pound impost scares me away.  I’ll take Sacred Scrolls as the top and only selection.  She’s won two of her last three starts and closed to just miss in the other one.  That was against tag and Alw foes, but she just looks like a horse that is on the improve at the ripe old age of six.

Here’s The Field –

1
Nurses    Mo Mentum Farm    Loveberry J   123   7/1

Kicked off the new season with a nice Alw score at HOU, getting home by two in pretty quick time.  That matches her win total for last season, but she has been close in a number of races, including a couple of ONT-bred races north of the border.

2
   De Nada    TwinTowersRacing    Velazquez J R   123   4/1

Her only 21 win came at the $50.000 tag level and that was her first start of the season back in Jan, so she’s a year-plus from seeing the winners circle.  Still, she was on the board in the Glen Falls (GII) and just missed last out after doing the heavy lifting at GP.  Can she get off of the seconditus and win today?

3
Sacred Scrolls    La Canada Racehorses    Hernandez C J   123   5/1

She’s won two of her last three starts, although at a lower level than this.  She loves the turf, and seems to be in fine form right now.  This could be a spot for her to step up and make some noise, so I wouldn’t leave her off of your tickets.

4
   Capo Chino    Asgar    Davis D   123   6/1

She was on a solid 1-2 finish streak until fifth while facing stakes company over this track, and she tired late in that one to be last of five.  I don’t see it getting any easier today, so she’s going to need her best to get a check.

5
Summers Day    First Street Stables   Beschizza A   129   6/5

Other than that flp at KEE in the First Lady, she’s been tough to run with of late.  Note that she picks up six pounds off of those wins in the Lake George (GIII) and Lake Placid (GII) at SAR back in the summer.  That’s a lot of weight to overcome.
