Small Field of Five for Fleur De Lis Handicap at CD

7/2/22

12  CD  Fleur De Lis Hcp (GII)

$350.000    F&M 4yo&Up   1 1/8m Dirt     Hcp Weights

The big weekend of stakes actions continues here at the Twin Spires and we look at the field for the Fleur De Lis Hcp (GII) a mile and an eighth stakes for the ladies on the main track.  I’m going to the rail and will put Take The Fifth in this one… taking the fifth seems to be a very popular thing these days, but I digress.  She’s been second in her last two starts, the first a graded race at SA and the other over this track.  I think she is sitting on a big race and a win.  If not, let’s give the big barn a shot and put Precise Performance right in the middle of things.  She’s put some big money in the bank over her career and certainly knows how to get it done vs the graded types.  Look for her to be a big factor.

Here’s The Field –

1
Take The Fifth    TwinTowersRacing    Gaffalione T   119   5/2

Back-to-back runner up efforts in stakes company including a length back in the Santa Margarita (GII) and then over this track when leading almost all the way only to be a neck back in the Shawnee.  She is certainly a horse to watch today.

2
   Shining Moments    RNP Stables    Rodriguez A R   121   9/2

Won the Hillsborough (GII) back in March, and was second over this track two back in the CD Distaff Turf Mile (GII)… in fact most of his big races have been on the turf, so she will need to turn her dirt form around if she wants to be in this one.

3
Techno Slayer    The Sidley Stud    Velazquez J R   119   9/2

Hasn’t seen the winner’s circle since taking down WV-bred stakes company at CT back before Thanksgiving of last year.  She’s never far away, but seems to be on a very steady course in the wrong direction.

4
Precise Performance    Mb Stables    Saez L   119   7/2

She’s in the picture, just about every start, and may have a bit of the seconditus.  She was second in the BC F&M SPrint (GI) last year and has a pair of runner up starts this season, both vs. graded horses.  This may be a spot for her to get going.

5
   Processing Greek    Arindel    Franco M   118   8/1

Was claimed for $10.500 last out and goes right to the deep end of the pool.  She has eight wins from twenty-one starts, but this is the big time, so she’s going to have to run big just to get a minor share with this group.
