It just looked to me like Sensual Eruption was ready to do just that… erupt…  well, it was only a neck but a win at this level is quite the eruption and Smoke Stover’s bay filly led every step of the way to take The IND Oaks (GIII) in a final time of 1:414 for the mile and a sixteenth main track stakes.  It was her first stakes win, and she held off the late charge of Wow to bring home the lion’s share of the nice purse.  Sheza Hacker tracked the pace but had to settle for a dead-heat with post-time favorite and late closing Secret Eyes for the third spot.  Only a length separated the entire field in what looked to, and turned out to be, a wide open race.

Sensual Eruption is a 3yo bay filly by Erupt – Outlander, by Charley Farley, and she was bred by her owner, Smokey Stover, in ON.  As mentioned this was her first stakes score and her third overall win from seven starts, now taking her lifetime earnings to $226.800.  Congrats to the connections!

Sensual Eruption broke alertly set a conservative pace without pressure, turned away all challengers in the lane, won driving.  Wow tracked the pace mid-pack early, lost some ground thru the turn, closed full of run, could not get to winner.  Sheza Hacker just in behind the pace to the lane, lost some ground into the lane, could not close in on the eventual winner, dead-heat for the show.  Secret Eyes lacked early interest, closed well, dead-heat for third closing a late gap.  Storm Of Fire off a step slow, steady advance in engage the leader at the top of the lane, out-finished from there.
