Snakes On A Game An Easy Winner in The Hutcheson Stakes

The Hutcheson Stakes- Grade III

GP Race 5 6F Dirt

Purse $100.000 For

Three Year Olds

1st Snakes On A Game, trained by Team 7 Illusions

Took back after the start and settled in 2.5 lengths off the pace being set by Kendra King. Maintained his position down the backstretch and as they started to move around the turn. Swung out as they entered the stretch and began to make up ground on the leaders. Powered to the front with a half furlong to go and drew off for a comfortable win.

2nd Residue, trained by Smokey Stover

Broke well and took up a spot one length off the pacesetter. Raced wide around the turn as he advanced on the leaders. Was passed by the eventual winner but fought gamely to the wire to win the place by a nose.

3rd Lord Of Castamere, trained by Mb Stables

Established an advantageous position as they raced down the backstretch stalking the leaders. Encountered some traffic as he tried to start his move giving Snakes On A Game first jump on the lead. Moved through when a hole finally opened but was nosed out for the place.

4th Bridge Of Gold, trained by Mb Stables

Went right to the back after the start four lengths from the lead. Put in a belated rally to capture fourth but was never a threat to the top three.

Summary

This was a very impressive performance from Snakes On A Game as it was the fastest time since the event was moved to 6F 3 years ago. This gives his trainer a lot of options as it seems like he can sprint very effectively on both turf and dirt. Residue ran a very game race to be second as he was wide the whole trip and when it appeared he would be passed for the place he fought on gamely. Lord Of Castamere did run into traffic but when the hole opened he could not out finish Residue. The rest of the field may have to look for a softer spot next out.
