Sophomore Fillies Go Sprinting in Mizdirection

$100.000          3yoF           6f  Turf           122lbs

The sophomore fillies spell the quiz for the Mizdirection, a six furlong turf dash here in Queens, and it’s an interesting group.  I am looking for Big City Kitty to get the job done here today.  She was third against the boys on BC Day, and I think she’s in a place where everything works out perfectly for her and she rolls to a big win.  I’ll key Stop Gap under my top choice as this lightly raced filly has been tough in all of her starts and, in my opinion, is still looking to run her best race.  I’ll use Appealing Jewel on the bottom of my trifecta tickets as I just don’t think that first race for the new connections showed us what she is capable of.  Looks like a good one…

Here’s The Field –

1
Rear Bumper  Aer Stables  Diaz H R Jr 122 7/1

Broke maiden over the SA turf prior to that last out fifth place finish while facing OptAlw horses at TAM.  They move her back to the grass and she does show a recent gallop over this turf course.  This is obviously a step up in class for her and I’m just not sure if she’s ready for this.  The barn has been handy moving horses from claiming to stakes, so…

Its A Curse  Double Cross Ranch  Alvarado J 122 5/1

Her undefeated string came to a crashing halt when ninth on the SA turf last out.  She broke well and gave it her all, but maybe graded horses were just a bit more than she could handle at the time.  This is a bit softer than that, so maybe she gets back on track here.

 Stop Gap  Threshold  Carmouche K 122 5/2

Nice second place finish vs. graded horses to close out her ’19 season, and that was after changing hands to this barn.  Another good effort to be second in her seasonal debut down in NO, facing Alw horses on that afternoon.  She looks like a horse with a bright future and I’d give her a big look today.

 Salsabil  Nj Vets  Cancel
E
122 4/1

Broke maiden at CD two back and then closed out ’19 with a fourth place finish in the Wait A While at GP.  She has a string a good am works getting ready for today, but she may need a race to get back into the swing of things.  If she is on go, she could be tough.

5
Big City Kitty  Our Athletes  Lezcano J 122 3/1

A nose here, a neck there… this filly would have a ton of money in the bank.  She missed a neck in the Matron (GIII), was third in the BC Juv Turf (GII) while facing the boys… and just missed a nose last out when second at GP vs. Alw horses.  They give her some room to stretch her legs in this one and she should be tough as nails.

6
Like It Or Not  Mb Stables  Cardenas L 122 4/1

Never off of the board in her ten lifetime starts but it took her eight races to get out of the maiden ranks.  She came right back with a win and a second vs. Alw company so this looks like the logical next step in her progression.  The big barn doesn’t come to mess around so I look for a big run.

7
Full Of Heart  Arindel  Franco M 122 7/1

Four wins from eleven starts, so he knows his way to the winner’s circle, but he’s been in $35.000 claiming company of late and has mixed results there, so this is going to be a step up and I don’t know if he’s ready for this.  His best may get him a minor share.

8
Appealing Jewel  John Henry  Gutierrez R 122 5/1

Had a three race win streak then changed hands via private sale for $10.000 so the previous owner must have known it was time to sell.  Nah… don’t be fooled.  This one still has something to prove and should be in the mix today.  If she fires back to that Sweet Life (GIII) race, look out.
