The huge season continued for Mb Stables on Sunday afternoon at WO and after winning the Princess Elizabeth one day earlier with Darling Smile, they doubled up in the stakes wins with an exacta as Southern Style outfinished stablemate State Senator for the $250.000 score. A maiden winner going long in his last start, the improving colt added a second win to his credentials while becoming another winner for sire Commanding, who is off to a huge start in the breeding shed with Grade I placed and FL Sire Stakes-In Reality winner Good Authority from the same crop.

As expected, Indiana Jones (*0.95) had absolutely no early speed in the Coronation Futurity as Cash (11.55) sprung out to the lead, only to be engaged by State Senator (1.90) on the outside of him as Southern Style (3.10) held up close in third. But State Senator quickly retreated back to third and that left Cash alone up front and into the backstretch, the field was quite strung out with almost seven-lengths from first to last. A half-mile came up in 48.67 and six-furlongs was posted 1:12.36 with positions unchanged in the small field but Southern Style angled outside of Cash around the far turn with State Senator getting back into gear and at the head of the lane, the outside momentum was changing the complexion of the race. Southern Style sat the perfect trip and rolled to the front as Cash gave way and while State Senator came on for second, he was no match for the winner while the real disappointment was Indiana Jones, who clearly disliked the dirt and never got involved.

Mb Stables sent a one-two punch to the Coronation Futurity and ended up with the top two spots as Southern Style held off his stablemate to score a second straight win. Distance proved to be no problem for the son of Commanding and he will look to the TC trail in the coming months, with many of the ONT- and CAN-bred races still his for the taking.
