The LS turf course is going to see some fast horses for this card and none faster than this group of gents set to sprint five furlongs in the Grand Prairie Turf Challenge.  I’m looking for Blazing Crown to get back to the winner’s circle today, and he’s no stranger to that… he shows a long sting of wins before that runner-up effort in the Beau Stakes at CD, and he had the lead in that one.  I think he flips the script today.  Hopewell Artist is another that deserves a big look and he was one/two in a bunch of races before slipping up in the Jaipur (GI) last out.  I say he bounces back big and may be the one to beat.

Here’s The Field –

1
Settle The Score Vr    John Henry    Eramia R E   122   8/1

He’s still looking for his first win of the season but has two thirds including a last out closing effort in the Japiur (GI) at BEL where he was dismissed at 99/1 odds.  He was also third in The Fool (GIII) at AQU so he’s a horse that is probably more dangerous than his odds may say.  Give him a look.

2
   Lucinda    Alydar Stables    Wenc I C   122   9/2

He ran a big race over this surface last out to win the Chamberlain Bridge for his second victory of the season.  I love a horse that has won on a surface like this and I think he could run right out of his skin and win again.

3
Charleys One Love    Ajm Stables    Luzzi L J   122   10/1

Claimed for just $8.000 and has a win and a third under the new ownership, so they go for the gusto and head into stakes company.  He looks a dangerous sort and may be sitting on a big race.  He could surprise.

4
   Blazing Crown    30west    Murrill M   122   8/5

Well, he’s hotter than a $2 pistol…  Five wins in a row before the second in the Beau Stakes at CD and has a string of on-the-board finishes that goes farther than the eye can see.  He won the McKay Turf Sprint at PIM and looks ready to make more cash here today.

5
   Cartoonish    Nakamura Stables    Velazquez J R   122   9/2

Got back on the winning ways taking down an OptAlw race at WO on the sod north of the border.  He’s kicked the can in a pair of stakes races this year, but may be rounding back into form and that could be bad news for this group.

6
   Butter Ball    Angelos Stable    Hernandez R M   122   8/1

Still looking for his first picture of the season but does have two solid runner-up finishes.  He closed well to be fourth in the FG Stakes (GIII) to kick off the season, so he could be tough if he can find some of that old magic.

7
Point High    Apache Warrior    Moran D   122   5/1

Like an ATM machine, he just spits out money every time they put him in the gate.  Three wins and a second from four starts and he was on the board in eight of twelve starts last season, so you have to put him in the picture every time he is entered.

8
   Highflyer    Witeout Stables    Wilson E J   122   12/1

Broke maiden two back and has struggled vs Alw company with an eighth and a fourth (DH) in two starts since the win.  He is lightly raced, only his seventh start, so there is room for improvement… and he’s going to need it.

9
Hopewell Artist    Smokey Stover    Elliott S   116   9/2

Was rolling along with wins and runner-up finishes in a slew of starts, then threw an absolute clunker in the Japiur (GI) at BEL.  The am gallops say throw that out the window and look for a big finish today, so let’s do just that.

10
   Mystery    Fractious    Eikleberry R   122   7/1

Closed out ’21 with a stakes win, kicked-off ’22 with a stakes win, but it’s three in a raow where he has been a bit erratic.  Second in the Silk Run at GP, then was eighth in the TS Turf Spring (GII) and fourth over the CD sod in the Beau Stakes.  Who do we get today?
