Speeding Zeus an Easy Winner in The McKnight Handicap

The McKnight Handicap- Grade III

GP Race 10  1 1/2M  Turf

Purse $200.000 For Four Year

 Olds and Upward

1st Speeding Zeus, trained by Maxmillon Farm

Was quickly able to establish great position on the rail three lengths off an honest pace being set by Lunar Blaze. Maintained his position as they moved down the stretch the first time and started to close in on the leader down the backstretch. Pulled even as they moved around the turn and by the time they entered the stretch for the final time had drawn clear by a length. Was never threatened and won by a comfortable margin.

2nd Blue Eight, trained by Blushing Meadows

Raced on the rail 5 lengths off the lead for the first mile. Followed Speeding Zeus as he started his move but was unable to close any ground on him. Caught Lunar Blaze on the last jump to nab the place.

3rd Lunar Blaze, trained by John Henry

Broke well and quickly went to the lead while moving over to the rail. Set an honest pace while maintaining a three-length lead through the first mile. Could not match strides when challenged for the lead by Speeding Zeus but fought gamely through the stretch before being nipped for the place.

4th Wagon Wheel, trained by Invicta Group Llc

Dropped to last and was 10 lengths back before they got to the first turn. Continued to trail the field all the way around the first time. Started to make up ground as they entered the final turn and was able to pass some tired rivals to pick up a minor award.

Summary

Speeding Zeus was able to sit the perfect trip and proved to be much the best. He seems to be rounding into his best form and will probably take a step up next time. Blue Eight seems to be more at home on the turf and should be able to have some success in the future while I expect The Force Awakens to fare better at equal weights in the future.
