Speter Improves Again To Take The Cornhusker

The PRM Cornhusker Handicap – Grade III
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $300.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st   Speter   Nakamura Stables   Luzzi L J

As i mentioned in the preview for this race you can often see when ordinary horses head up their improvement curve to become extraordinary and this one certainly falls into that category as he started the season in a TAM one win allowance. Traveling in the perfect spot he was too strong under bottom weight and won by a game half a length and if there is any more improvement to come he could well make up into a useful dirt router.

2nd   Quality Art   Mb Stables   Talamo J

Looked good at the mile mark but found the ninth furlong just a bit too far and was out toughed in the end. He is another that has been traveling nicely up his improvement curve, after all when his rival and stable mate Howl To The Hound was wining the KYD last year he was being beaten in a GG one win Allowance. A big effort and one that says there are better things to come.

3rd   Joe Grind   Night Rider Stables   Lopez P

The trifecta of those going up the improvement curve over those going down he stalked Howl To the Hound early on and was in the lead with a furlong to run. In the end he just whacked away for third but was only a length back on the line. This one has been very lightly raced for a five year old and i think there is plenty more in him for a while yet.

4th   Aerialist   Mb Stables   Elliott S

Had his chances but didn’t really see out the nine furlongs in the end fading a little into fourth. A much better effort than his poor run in the Metropolitan last time so i guess we can put that effort down to a race engine wide gate brain fart.
