SSM Day Brings Sprinting Females to SA

SA 4   SSM F/M Turf Sprint

   $150.000   3yo F   5 1/2f  Turf     121lbs

Why it’s called the F/M Sprint then is limited to 3yos, I do not know.  But with the current state of things and the goings on I’ll just walk away shaking my head and do a bit of handicapping for the 2020 SSM F/M Turf Sprint, to be run at five and a half furlongs on the lush SA turf course.

It’s hard for me or any of the other handicappers here to get past Prada in this one.  Coming off of an impressive mile win in the Durant (GIII), she’s the only horse with a stakes win… let alone a graded race.  She should be about as chalky as a big gulp of Pepto… I’ll put Deliberate Speed in the second spot, with three consecutive victories.  She looks tough, but does she have anything for the top choice?  That’s why we put ’em in the gate.
Here’s the Field…

1
Royally Bred  High Voltage  Van Dyke D 121 7/1

Just purchased by the connections for $35.000 coming off of a sprint win at GG.  That was her first win on the turf, along with a second vs. similar, so she seems to have a thing for the green stuff.  This is her first stakes but a good spot with a small field.  Catches the rail… things may be looking up.

2
Burning Forest  Jediminds Stable  Cedillo A 121 10/1

Sixth vs. OptAlw at MTH back in Sept and has been shelved since that race.  Broke maiden on the DMR lawn vs Cal-breds and shows a steady stream of local works getting ready to start her 3yo efforts.  She’s going to need her best here.

3
 Deliberate Speed  Arindel  Prat F 121 3/1

Seems to have figured this race horse thing out, winning three in a row.  Broke maiden over this track facing Cal-bred maiden claimers, went to Fla for the next two wins, both on the lawn, and seems to be improving with every start.  Look for her to be a threat today.

4
Prada  Team 7 Illusions  Gutierrez Mario 121 3/5

Well she certainly looks the part, making her ’20 debut off of the Durant (GIII) victory, down at DMR in Nov.  She closed fast that day for the victory, but certainly has shown speed in some of her four starts as well.  This looks like a spot for her to get to the photo booth yet again.

5
 Abby G  Gustafson Stable  Pereira T J 121 4/1

Has shown solid sprinting abilities including a closing third against Cal-bred turf horses here to close out her two year old season.  She was fifth beaten a length in her only stakes effort, again facing Cal-breds at DMR.  She could be in the thick of it late.
