Star Studded Field In Cotillion Stakes at PRX

9/24/22

  15    PRX     Cotillion Stakes (GI)

$1,000.000   3yoF                  1 1/16m  Dirt                122lbs

The biggest day in PA racing and I completely overlooked a monster race… and I apologize for that.  The Cotillion Stakes (GI) and the huge $1,000.000 purse has drawn some fantastic fillies to the dirty side of PA, and I’m going to put Karloffs Monster on top today.  I’m not happy with her last-out performance, but I think she’s bounces back today, flipping the script on this field.  I never to the big races without giving Mb a shot, so let’s put Derby Connections in the thick of it.  She sure did close fast to get the job done in the Alabama, and this being the fourth starts since the big barn took over the conditioning, I think she gets better and may be the one to beat.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Ask Forfree Delivery    Arindel    Ferrer J C   122   9/2

Two wins this season including the Mother Goose (GII) (DH) and was a tiring third last out in the MTH Oaks (GIII).  She’s in fine form and should be in the middle of this one, like she seems to be in every single race.

2
Third Gear    Smokey Stover    Saez L   122   7/1

She’s got more than three of ’em…  Won the Black Eyed Susan (GII) then came back to beat up on ONT-bred stakes types and has three wins in four starts since changing hands to this super-barn.  She has some real talent.

3
   Venezia    D J C Racing Stables    Fuentes Ru   122   5/1

Another powerful filly that was running big with the boys (see that third in the SA Derby) but has also been tough with her own kind, and when she’s right, man is she right.  Nice win in the Mother Goose (GII) (DH) but tired to be fifth in the MTH Oaks (GIII) so I’m not sure how much she has in the tank right now.

4
   Shadow Police    Smokey Stover    Velazquez J R   122   6/1

Only two starts since that thirteenth place finish in the KYD (GI), a win in the IND Oaks (GIII) but was a tiring fifth in the Acorn (GI).  She makes a power 1/2/3 punch with her stable mates… she’s tough.

5
   Derby Connection    Mb Stables    Hernandez R M   122   4/1

She’s had a heck of a year, winning four of seven starts including the Ashland (GI) and Alabama (GI).  Runner-up in the KY Oaks (GI)… you get the picture… the big barn comes to big races with big horses.

6
Jinxed Artist    Smokey Stover    Cedillo A   122   9/2

Hasn’t been off of the board in ’22 and may have an upside as she hasn’t been ‘beat-up’ quite as much as some others.  She was a length back when second in the MTH Oaks (GIII) last out, and this barn is hot.

7
Last Call    YME Stable    Espinoza V   122   8/1

Two wins from her last three starts including the Bailer (GI) at SAR, where she drew off to win by two at 17/1 odds.  She may be overlooked at the windows again today, and that could spell ding-ding-ding for those on her bandwagon.

8
   Ifyerwokeyerajoke    TwinTowersRacing    Gaffalione T   122   7/2

She’s a top-notch race filly… no doubt.  Back to back wins in the IA Oaks (GIII) and the Test (GI) so she’s running about as well as you could want a horse to go, right now.  I like her but the politics should stop.

9
   Karloffs Monster    TwinTowersRacing    Jaramillo E   122   5/1

No hidden fact that I love this mare and this makes for a very strong 1/2 punch today… She’s run with the best of the best, hung tough with the boys and just runs thru a brick wall to get the job done.  She did struggle last out, a seventh in the Alabama (GI), so has this season taken it’s toll?

10
   Grande Sunset    Mb Stables           SCR

She’s out.

11
   Dominance    Nakamura Stables    Elliott S   122   7/1

Claimed for just $62.500 and has come back to be right in the thick of all four starts for this barn.  She won an Alw race over this surface before driving across I95 to win the MTH Oaks (GIII) last out.  She could be the surprise.

12
Theres No Doubt    Angelos Stable    Franco M   122   6/1

Three wins in a row taking an Alw race, a Cal-bred stakes, then getting it done in the CT Oaks (GIII) in her most recent.  She has speed, so don’t let the post draw discourage you from going to the windows.
