Stargazing Looks to Take CA Cup Oaks

Seven Cal-bred sophomore fillies will be headed to the turf course on Saturday afternoon and we look at a nice group for the CA Cup Oaks, at a flat mile.  Can you look at anyone other than Stargazing for the win?  I can’t… I know she only has a single win but she’s been third in all of her other starts including the BC Juv F Turf (GI) at KEE back in Nov.  That seals the deal for me.  I’ll put Glamorous Life in the second spot, as she has won a Cal-bred stakes and has been close in a graded race.

Here’s The Field –

Broke maiden back in June, then had three consecutive bad starts going 11/11/12 in stakes company.  Was third on a soggy CD turf course where she closed a late gap, so maybe she’s coming out of it and can be a factor here today.

2
Chicken Foot    Night Rider Stables    Prat F

  20/1

Three runner-up efforts at the MSW level and was last of twelve in the Matron (GIII), and they jump back in with the stakes horses again.  I think she’s be better served running with MSW horses, but what do I know.

3
Glamorous Life    Nakamura Stables    Pereira T J

  3/1

Picks up a two pound impost off of that win at DMR where she took down similar in the CTBA Stakes.  She was seventh vs graded horses last out, closing a bit in the Starlet (GI) at LA, but this horse can run and should be given a big look today.

4
   E I E I O    Big Guns Stables    Rispoli U

  7/2

She hasn’t done anything wrong yet… three starts, three wins and has looked good doing it.  This looks like a good spot to go after black-type for the first time, and I think she could be any type of horse.  Don’t leave her off of your tickets.

5
   Maude    Arindel    Rosario J

121

  9/2

Back-to-back wins here in SoCal, then back to back seventh place finishes while facing open stakes company.  Looks for a bit of relief coming back to Cal-bred types and that could spell a better finish for this one.

6
   Stargazing    Aer Stables    Gutierrez Mario

  7/5

Well, we found out post time favorite… only the maiden win, here at SA but she’s been third in an OptAlw, the Natalama Stakes (GI) at WO and the BC Juv FTurf (GI) at Kee where she closed down the lane in that one.  She will get my $2

7
   Dream Scheme    Fractious    Gonzalez Ru

  9/2

Two wins in a row, breaking maiden on the MTH grass then taking Alw horses on the FG sod in her most recent.  She looks like a good one, so I’d at least give her a shot here today.
