5 SAR The Phipps Stakes (GI) [BC]
$500.000 4yo&Up F&M 1 1/8m Dirt 123lbs
When you have three lengths separating a field of eight, you know you’ve just watched on heck of a horse race. We did get the unfortunate dead-heat, but for once, I’ll let that go and concentrate on the race itself, because The Phipps Stakes (GI) was everything we wanted and more.
TwinTowersRacing is hoping for a big weekend and Starting Over got that going in a big way by taking this one by a quarter length, covering the mile and an eighth in 1:48.01, while using her usual late, closing turn of foot to put another big win in her resume’. She’s just a head away from a trio of wins in this race, taking the ’24 rendition, as well. The 8yo mare trailed early, which is her norm, but came rolling down the lane to score her seventeenth career win, her third of the ’26 season, and she now has more than $6,000.00 in earnings. Congrats to the connections.
Decimas Queen, from the Maxmillion Farm outfit, stalked the pace while traveling wide throughout, grabbed a short lead in the lane, but could not hold off the eventual winner while nosing out Vanessa, Royalty Stables trained, and winning Link Stables trained Down On The Beat were just a nose back in a dead-heat for the third-place money. Again, only three lengths covered the field of eight and there were no scratches in this one.
