Starting Over the One to Beat in The Correction

The Correction – $100.000

AQU – 6 Furlongs – Dirt

For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward

March 11, 2023

Starting Over may be the one to beat, but if anyone in this field can run with her, it’s Mercy Authority. the biggest knock against Mercy Authority is that one of her few losses came at stakes level, while Starting Over is graded placed. Marty looks strong, too, but I’m not sure she can run with the other two. And if it rains, take a look at Her World.

Here’s the field:

1 Marty (La Canada Racehorses)

Solid allowance filly trying to step up to stakes. Her best effort at this level was a second-place finish in the $100.000 Lady Erie at PID in August. Finished third last out in the $100.000 Spring Fever Stakes in state-bred company and scored a career high 95 SRF. That was just three weeks ago. Will have to see if the turnaround is too quick. Otherwise, this could be a win.

2 Bora Stormwarrior (Arindel)

Graded experience for this one, but she could do no better than eighth in a field of eight in the Grade 3 Comely three starts back. Since then, she has a win and a second at a mile each. Her best performances have come at a mile and beyond, but she shortens up here.

3 Exprezzo (Gdp Inc)

First and only start this year was a win at this distance in allowance company by an impressive three lengths. She placed in her only attempt at this level, the $150.000 state-bred Evening Jewel Stakes. But that was way back in April. Throw out the seventh-place finish on turf two starts back and she has been very consistent since the summer. But not a consistent winner with just two in thirteen starts. May be a little outclassed here.

4 Starting Over (TwinTowersRacing)

Finished second in the Santa Monica Stakes (Grade 2) last out and earned a 100 SRF. That was her best performance at that level which may mean she is improving, or it may mean she likes sprinting better than routing. Works are strong. She should like the distance and surface. The one to beat.

5 Mercy Authority (Martyparty)

There is only one word for this filly’s record in 2022 and so far this year – WOW. In eleven months, she has not been worse than second. And until she was nosed out in the $100.000 Broadway in NY-bred company, she had put together a string of seven wins, all in allowance company. Like her chances.

6 Her World (D J C Racing Stables)

Won by a whopping five lengths last out at TAM in the slop. In fact, she is perfect on off-going. And since showers are expected tomorrow at AQU, this one is well worth a look. Her only try at stakes level came in the Broussard Memorial in December where she finished fourth by seven. But she shortens up here and will probably like the distance better.

7 Tunted (Night Rider Stables)

Has not been able to hit the board in stakes company in six attempts. She did finish second here at AQU on off going two starts back, but that was at optional allowance level. This is a tough spot to try and get that elusive stakes win. Could be up front early but remains to be seen if she can stay there.
