As the horses entered the starting gates today at Arlington Park the weather was perfect and the turf course came back as firm. There were horses ready to roll in hopes to take a nice big purse home in the Secretariat Stakes. As the gates flung open all the horses came out running but Steel Moon and El Gran Jet were the first 2 to battle for the lead with Full Of Trinity 3rd on the inside but looking like he wanted to make a move to the front and that is exactly what he did, passing both horses for the lead just after the first 2 furlongs in the race. Four furlongs into the race Full Of Trinity had skipped away from the rest of the field and had opened a 2 an ¾ length lead on Steel Moon who was in 2nd just ahead of El Gran Jet who was in 3rd. 6 Furlongs into the race Full Of Trinity was still looking strong on the lead and was 3 lengths ahead of Steel Moon and El Gran Jet who were tied for 2nd, and both hoping to make a strong charge for the wire in the last 4 furlongs. With 2 furlongs to go Full Of Trinity looked as if he was throwing in the towel and the closer’s were coming at him with Steel Moon just in front of El Gran Jet. This had the looks of a thrilling finish as all the horses were within 4 lengths of each other. With a half a furlong to go Full Of Trinity Steel Moon and El Gran Jet had all lined up on the lead and it looked as if there may be a 3 way dead heat but in the end Steel Moon made his way up to win by the narrowest of margins (.01 seconds) over a dead heat in second between Full Of Trinity and El Gran Jet. In the end all of the horses finished within .4 of a second of each other which proves to me that all belonged here and could be onto bigger and better things when they don’t have to beat each other up.
