The Sugar Swirl – GIII

Three Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares
A field of nine will go to post here for the grade three Sugar Swirl going six furlongs here at Gulfstream Park for fillies and mares. Two early scratches but still a big field so let’s take a look at them.
1. Brave Assumption (10-1-2-3 $141.910), trained by Nakamura Stables
First up here is only a maiden winner so far into her career but she has had some good efforts in tough races. Usually likes to be close so wouldn’t be surprised if she is up close from the rail. Maybe bottom of the board here.
2. Floral (9-2-5-1 $132.920), trained by D J C Racing Stables
First for D J C Racing Stables here and she is coming into this race off of a second grade two last time. Ran good that day in small field and has been running good. Could have a slight chance here.
3. Heartthrob (11-4-2-0 $189.980), trained by D J C Racing Stables
And the other one for D J C Racing Stables and this filly is coming into this race off of a win in a minor stakes race. It was on the slop though so unless this is an off track I think she is a bottom of the board horse.
4. Crush Szyra (13-4-3-2 $175.240), trained by High Voltage
Another nice filly here and she spent her last three races up at Woodbine. Her last race was rather horrible honestly but before that she was running good. If she bounces back to the races before that last one she has a decent chance to win.
5. Di Quartieri (5-3-0-2 $136.920), trained by Mb Stables
First for Mb Stables here and this filly is very lightly raced. But she has shown loads of talent in only five starts and could be the right horse at the right time. I think she should have a very good chance.
6. Always Wendy (12-7-0-0 $272.440), trained by Mb Stables
And the other Mb Stables runner here and she is an all or nothing type closer. She either wins or is out of the money. She needs a fast pace to run at and if there is one she can swoop by them all and win this.
7. Tommy Frazier (20-4-2-6 $573.440), trained by John Henry
Next up in the field here and this filly did win a grade three earlier this year. She is another who likes an off track but she can handle a fast track also. Seems a little out of form and I don’t think she is much of a threat.
8. Perfection Only (11-2-2-2 $103.570), trained by TwinTowers Racing
Moving to this filly and she was beaten in a statebred stakes race in her last start. She seems to be a high level allowance horse to me and I just think she is going to be outclassed in here.
9. Totally Baroque (18-4-4-2 $1537.240), trained by Aer Stables
Scratched
10. Zealous Kruz (11-3-1-0 $129.110), trained by Estero Farms
Last one to stay in the field here and she was in a graded stakes in her last start. Like the last filly seems like a high level allowance horse and with the bad post don’t see her with much of a chance.
11. Z Is For Zero (13-6-3-2 $511.360), trained by First Street Stables
Scratched
Summary
A good field of filly and mare sprinters here for sure and no standouts in this field. My top selection is going to be the lightly raced Di Quartieri for Mb Stables. Good luck to all in the field.
