Summers Day Uses Relentless Late Kick to Take The Lake George at SAR

8  SAR     The Lake George (GIII)

   $150.000      3yoF       1m  InTurf           122lbs +penalties

I didn’t get anything right in this Fridays The Lake George (GIII) and the Green Card just nailed down the exacta (1,120.30) like it was childs-play… in the end, First Street Stables Summers Day took the win by a quarter length over 67/1 long-shot Brooklyn Bride, as the winner seemed doomed at the top of the lane and flew home late to take the win.  She covered the mile inner-turf distance in 1:35 flat on the SAR turf, labeled as good.  Into The Darkness was two lengths back in third, three quarters of a length better than Concoction in fourth.   Only four lengths covered the entire field, so to say that it was hotly contested, well, that’s an understatement.

Summers Day is a 3yo bay filly by Mr Cat Summers – Each Day, by Greek God, and she was bred in Fla by her owner, First Street Stables.  This was her third win from seven starts, all of those coming this season, and she now had $182.200 in earnings.  That’s back to back stakes score, this being her first graded win, but she certainly looks like a horse that will be heard from as this season moves forward.  Congrats to the connections!

Summers Day lacked early interest while trailing, began to accelerate into the lane, split horses at the furlong marker, closed full of run to get up inside the final 150-yards, won driving.  Brooklyn Bride showed good early interest, up to take the lead into the far turn, continued to show the way until the final 150-yards, ceded late.  Into The Darkness rated, asked into the lane while fanning out widest of all, best foot too late.  Concotion  with the early pace, 3p first turn, rushed up to take over down the backside, headed into the far turn, one pace from there.  Peppermint Crush was not a factor.  Rosehunt broke alertly showing good speed from the rail to the far turn, steady retreat.  Thats Your Opinion good early speed, lost ground through the clubhouse turn, tired.
