The question surrounding the SUN Oaks was going to be which of these six fillies would arrive on the scene at this later stage to punch their ticket to the KYO. Only one horse had any KYO points, and that one only had two. It was not a bad field, just had more of the look of a big two year old stake where horses look to establish themselves, then a March prep where horses have already accomplished big things. In the end, it would be a recent private sales purchase by Mb Stables, Deliberate Miss, who is now 2-for-2 in going long. This would get her in the KYO, but whether or not Mb Stables enters her as a part of his three horse limit is another question. This could be more the case of a $200.000 stake win for him then a KYO prep race. Congrats to him, as he wins the race for the third time. Winning jockey T Gaffalione is a first time winner, and the race was won in a time of 1:42.20. Let’s take a look!

(1/4 Mile- :24.20)- Commanding Lady is the quickest out of the start gate for trainer Estero Farms, and she looks to jump out to a length lead moving into the turn before Gingerandmaryann pushes forward, and joins her at the front end for Nakamura Stables. The eventual winner, Deliberate Miss out of Mb Stables, sits in the middle of three wide of a group assuming a stalking position. Golden Hour, from D J C Stables, is on her inside, and Fair On Friday is on her outside for Gdp Inc. Trailing is Sweet Sauce, as the Rampage Stable filly is about four lengths from the front.

(½ Mile- :48.21)- Commanding Lady and Gingerandmaryann swap the lead a couple times on the backstretch, with Gingerandmaryann looking like she was going to take charge before Commanding Lady came back at her midway through. Golden Hour had a wide open gap in front of her on the rail, and she looked as though she wanted to take it. Deliberate Miss and Fair On Friday maintained their positions, while Sweet Sauce still had the same gap to the rest of the field in front of her.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.5 To Go)- As the field moved into the turn, Commanding Lady began to inch away from Gingerandmaryann, and did so while moving up against the rail, disallowing Golden Hour the opportunity to take the lane she could have. This now led to the opening being in front of Deliberate Miss, and she looked to capitalize. Midway around the turn, Gingerandmaryann started to pack it in, and now there was nothing stopping Deliberate Miss, who had a length to make up in the stretch. Golden Hour was lacking response, and Fair On Friday struggled in the turn. Sweet Sauce was not moving forward.

(Finish- 1:42.20)- In the stretch, Deliberate Miss worked hard to complete the pass of Commanding Lady, but eventually was able to do so just in time to pick up the win. Commanding Lady battles well to be second. Gingerandmaryann stabilized in the third position, but it was hard to tell if this more due to a lack of challenger or not. Golden Hour nearly picked up that spot late. Sweet Sauce got closer, though needed to move earlier as third was probably a reality for her. Fair On Friday rounds it out.

About The Winner- Deliberate Miss, trained by Mb Stables, and ridden to victory by T Gaffalione, is a three year old filly by Strategic Command, and is out of Wontseeyoutonight. She was bred in Florida by Our Athletes, and acquired by Mb Stables in private sales for $100.000 in mid-February. The win is her second in eight starts, and her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $176.940.
