Sunday Sprinting Sophomores in The Gold Fever at BEL

$100.000    3yo    6f   Dirt      122lbs

Sunday stakes racing and we catch a small field of five sprinting sophomores set to go six panels over the BEL main track in The Gold Fever.  I’m headed to the rail and gave Public Information the slight edge in this one.  He’s only missed the board once, his first trip to the gate, and we all know that’s pretty much a write-off race.  He ran well at AQU last out facing NY-bred stakes company and I look for more of the same today.  I’ll give Marco Polo the slight edge for the second spot, although it looks pretty open to me.  He has back to back wins, and may be the hot horse right now.  Like I said, it’s a closely matched group in my eye, and I won’t be surprised by the finish.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Public Information    D J C Racing Stables    Franco M   122   5/2

He has a 1-1-1 line from three seasonal starts and just missed in the NYSS-Times Square, facing NY-bred stakes company, in his most recent trip to the starting gate.  This looks to be similar and I would expect a big run from him today.

2
Learned Jake    First Flight Stable    Castellano J J   122   8/1

Broke maiden at CT then quit late in the Bay Shore (GIII) over a muddy AQU main track.  He looks like an outsider and is probably over his head, yet again.

3
Dellas Boy    Alydar Stables    Lezcano J   122   9/2

Broke maiden at SA then ran big in the Hutcheson at GP, then just didn’t fire in the Lexington (GIII) at KEE.  It looked like they were rushing him, perhaps trying to make it into the starting gate at Louisville last weekend… this is a spot where he should bounce back.

4
   Marco Polo    D J C Racing Stables    Davis D   122   7/2

Just doesn’t run a bad race, showing a pair of runner-up starts to kick-off his career as a 2yo, and has won both sophomore starts, breaking maiden at TUP then beating N1X Alw types at TAM in his most recent.  This looks like a logical spot for him.

5
Dexter Rules    Angelos Stable    Carmouche K   122   7/2

He’s been making a living on PA-bred types, breaking maiden on the PEN grass and beating Alw horses on the PRX main track in his most recent.  Consistent, versatile… and you have to give him a shot to make some noise here, as well.
