Sweep The Ash Takes Summertime Oaks

6/20/15 Post Time 3:50

RACE 2 SA      Summertime Oaks (GII)

$200.000 3yoF 1 1/16m Dirt

Sweep The Ash got back to the winning ways as the 3yo Running Stables‘ trained filly sat just in behind the speed dual of Midnight Wild and Chocolatini, swung out four wide for the drive, and went clear in the final furlong, to take the Summertime Oaks (GII) at SA.  The final time for the mile and a sixteenth was 1:42.11 on the fast main track.

Away from the gate right in front of the stands and Midnight Wild was away quickly from the outside.  Chocolatini chasing that one, Sweep The Ash a half length back, Roseline on the rail next to that one and Hellonheels was a step slow from the gate and three lengths from the leader.

Into and around the clubhouse turn, six furlongs left to run, and Chocolatini crossed over and had the lead by a length.  Midnight Wild chasing that one, a gap of two back o Sweep The Ash, Roseline still skimming the rail and Hellonwheels under a snug hold and eight lengths from the leader.

The field made their way down the backside and now had a half-mile to run, Chocolatini still in front by three-quarters of a length, Midnight Wild keeping the pressure on that one.  Gap of two back to Sweep The Ash being ridden patiently, Roseline still clinging to the inside and Hellonheels could still see them all, seven lengths covering the field.

Making their way around the far turn and to the top of the lane, two furlongs left to run and Midnight Wild was up to stick a nose in front.  Chocolatini digging in and asked for more, Sweep The Ash now a length and a half back and fanning out for the drive.  Roseline feeling the whip and Hellonheels needed to find more if she wanted to be any part of this one.

Now inside the furlong marker, Sweep The Ash down the middle of the track and going to the lead.  Midnight Wild and Chocolatini not willing to go away so easily and Roseline now inching closer as Hellonwheels put the cue in the rack.

Inside the final 150-yards and to the wire, Sweep The Ash proving to have this one all her way as she cruised under the wire in front by a length.  Midnight Wild continued on gamely in second, with Chocolatini another three-quarters of a length back in third.  Roseline was a length back in fourth with Hellonheels closing out the field.

Sweep The Ash is a 3yo chestnut filly by Sweep The Nebulae – Volcanic Ashley, by Get The Gold, and she was bred in NM by Boulevard.  Purchased by Running Farms for $450.000, this was her first win under the new ownership and she now shows three wins from seven starts and earnings of $303.120.  Congratulations to Running Farms and Sweep The Ash!
