You heard it here first: as predicted in my handicap, Maxmillion Farm’s Tekkers made up for back to back out of the money runs with an easy three-length score in the Grade III Seagram Cup Stakes at WO. The 5-1 longshot stalked the pace from the get-go and made a powerful move coming home to take the lead and draw off to win by a widening margin at the end of the 1 1/16 mile test in stakes record time of 1:40.63.
At 9-2, Mb Stables’ By Design took the lead early on and showed the way to the stretch before being collared by the winner in the stretch. The gelding carried on with courage to be much the best of the others at the wire. LionKing Stables’ Pomodoro came home late, but determined, to finish third five lengths back as the 2-1 favourite. My handicap couldn’t have been much farther off, as I had him as the longest price in the field at 10-1. The minor award went to John Henry’s Petrochemical which faded to fourth after posting the early fractions on the lead around the club house turn.
