Ten Head Home for The Susan

Four stake affairs will take place this weekend at Gulfstream, with two being The Florida Sire Stakes- Affirmed, and for the girls, the Susan. Last three seasonal winners all found retirement when they became sophomores? Hopefully this years winner will have a long and prosperous campaign.

  • The FL Sire Stakes-Susan – Purse $200.000
  • Gulfstream Park- For Fillies two years old, Foaled in Florida
  • Seven Furlongs- Main Track
  • August 31st, 2019

This event has a history with the number 2. First of course is the fact that two year olds take part in this event each season which is obvious, but also both Downwind Stables and Mb Stables have been two time winners of this race as well as jockey Saez taking home back to back victories in 2011/12. Four winners of this affair have worn the number two silks with the most recent being Mb Stables Unforgiving. She holds the event record time which just so happens to be 1:22.02. Many entered will be trying changes for the second time as well. So will we see a number two win once again? Lets have a look at this years field;

Weights: 118 pounds: Starship Rhythm 120, Little Baby 1 pound overweight.

Changes: Terra Command– Adds Lasix

1 Zealous Kruz ( Estero Farms )- After she broke her maiden in first asking, trainer sent her to the deep end in the Gr. III Schuylerville race for six furlongs and she stayed mid pack throughout missing by two. Earned a 90 SRF figure for her efforts, one of three entered her to do so. Second time Lasix and blinkers and rail position is ideal. In the hunt.

2 Starship Rhythm ( Arindel ) – Has to add two pounds with her victory in this years Fl Sire Stakes- Vixen event, which was also her first career win as well after two failed maiden affairs. Was her first time racing with the use of Bute, so this will be her second try with the add. That also came in the slop and with the storm that is approaching, track conditions will definitely be sloppy. May just have another number 2 winner!

3 Vegas Show Hen ( Our Athletes ) – Is already a two time winner in her short career. Broke her maiden in first asking then took 107 days off before return to tackle the turf at five and a half winning an Alw51/NW1 race as the post time favorite. I will imagine that she will find some backers once again at the windows and this trainer has had me eating humble pie in the past, so things look promising here.

4 Little Baby ( Oquinn Farm) Jockey Samuel had a little extra with his steak dinner to be punished with the extra pound weight here. As well he has only six starts this year, but has two victories and a runner-up effort, so he has the talent. So does the horse for that matter, coming to this event off a MdSpWt50 victory where she added Lasix and a shadow roll. Equipment stays put for this event, and usually second time Lasix can be a charm for a runner.

5 Terra Command ( Fractious ) Made the switch to Bute to her regiment in her last Alw87/NW1 event which she won. That was her second victory for her then owner before being purchased and sent here. Her new trainer feels the addition of Lasix for this event will help continue with her winning ways. Works have been keen over this surface and she did earn a 90 SRF in her last. Hopefully off track conditions won’t hinder her.

6 Ooh Such Big Assets ( Arindel ) Second entry for this trainer, and was a minimal purchase at the summer auctions. In her first event for this trainer she took on the Vixen here at GP and she would eventually finish sixth, three lengths back. The winner of that event is here today and if the slop wasn’t agreeable with her for that event, I don’t think she is going to find a favorable footing once again. Passing based on track conditions.

7 Red Divos Gossip ( Night Rider Stables )- Another entry here who is coming out of the summer auction for a mere fin cost. She proved what she was worth in her first start for this trainer, winning a MdSpWt40 affair with the add of Bute. She also went off as the post time favorite in that race. This will be second time on Bute, and she did breeze a 35 and two over a good track surface here on the 28th, so she very well may prefer the off track surface. Factor in off that work.

8 Crystal Secret ( Mb Stables )- Its no secret that this trainer liked the looks of this filly in the auction ring as he placed a considerable price getting her. Started off attacking the turf back at the end of July at SAR, and she came home with a runner-up effort over a good turf course. Switches back to the dirt for this event, and this will be only her second start and second on Lasix. Trainer is keeping her works “secret” as well, so unsure how she will adjust to the sloppy conditions. Dan can pull a rabbit out of his hat from time to time?

9 Starship Twister ( TwinTowersRacing ) – This was one Starship that this trainer didn’t let go from his barn. She is the most experience runner in the group with four starts this season, and she broke her maiden three starts ago in the mud. Has not been as productive against allowance company runners in her past two starts, but she may very well have a gift when it comes to off track surfaces. Was off the pace and had mud thrown in her face to win, and the added furlong will definitely be beneficial for her. Charging late.

10 Made In America ( Jive Inc ) This trainer doesn’t send out a lot of runners, but when he does they general find success. Was purchased back in April as she was coming off a MdSpWt55 win at SA. Was shipped up to the Spa for her next try with this trainer in the Gr. III Schuylerville, and she closed to finish two lengths out slightly ahead of the inside runner today. Is the only one in this group to have earned two 90+ SRF ratings, and will be her second time on Lasix and Bute. If she can overcome the outside post and track conditions, she could surprise.
