DMR Race 6 1M – Turf

Three Year Olds and Up
And here we are for this years running of the grade two Del Mar Mile over the turf course of at course Del Mar. A field of eleven was entered for the race but there was one scratch in the field. The defending champ Duke Or Earl is in the field. Let’s take a look at the runners.
1. Green Rush (18-4-3-5 $187.850), trained by Pennsville Farm
The first runner in the field here is coming into this race off of a fifth place finish in the grade two Dixie Stakes at Pimlico. That race was about three months ago though so he will have to be fit to have a chance at winning in this spot.
2. Xmas Snow (17-5-2-2 $456.660), trained by Maxmillion Farm
And the next runner in the field right here is coming into this race off of a fifth place finish in the grade three Forbidden Apple at Saratoga. He was very good at the beginning of the year with on the pace wins but his last couple he has tried to come from off of the pace. Depends what tactics they use.
3. Nice Dive (23-11-5-2 $468.560), trained by Threshold
Another one that is coming out of the grade three Forbidden Apple right here and he was second that day. He has ran two seconds in graded stakes company in a row so if he can run a race like that in this spot I think he will have a decent chance at winning.
4. Iguazu (12-2-6-1 $75.480), trained by High Voltage
This next horse in the field is entering this race off of a second place finish in the grade three Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth. He ran very well that day and that was his best race of his career so far. If he improved off of that he could have a longshot chance in here.
5. Duke Or Earl (29-10-4-3 $519.560), trained by Gdp Inc
Last years defending champion of the race is coming back but for a different owner this year. He returned to the turf in his last start and won the grade three Oceanport at Monmouth. The turf is his best surface and I think he is one of the toughest horses in here.
6. Made To Sin (34-5-7-2 $1,545.400), trained by John Henry
One of the most versatile horses in the game here and he is the best at this distance on this surface I think. He is a good horse but he has not been really firing all that much this year. He will need to turn it around to have at chance at winning in here.
7. Banshee Star (29-6-4-3 $1,400.760), trained by Joseph Racing
The next runner is also one of those that is pretty versatile as he has won races on both surfaces. He is a graded stakes winner but he needs a good trip and that is usually when he sits way off the pace. If he gets off the pace and the pace is hot he will have a decent chance.
8. Hollywood Mist (8-2-3-1 $86.890), trained by Estero Farms
An up and coming three year old right here who has been running good in first level allowance races in his last few starts. This is a big jump up in class and he doesn’t necessarily look ready for this spot but the works are good and his trainer knows when to take a shot.
9. The Hand Youre Dealt (24-7-5-5 $941.480), trained by Mb Stables
And another one that is coming into this race out of the grade three Forbidden Apple and this horse ran seventh that day but he was way too far back that day. I think he is the best horse in this field when he doesn’t have a bad trip so he is my top choice.
10. Blame It On Luck (6-2-2-0 $119.600), trained by Mb Stables
Scratched
11. Audioslave (22-6-0-5 $768.680), trained by Alydar Stables
Here is one that is just trying to find his best place to run at and it might be a mile on the turf. The only time he had this trip he ran third in a grade three. He has a really tough post and he is just not in great form so I don’t see him having much of a chance.
Summary
Well a big field for this race and it looks very competitive to me. My top pick is going to be The Hand Youre Dealt as I think he is the best runner in here if he gets a good trip. Nice Dive also looks tough in here too though. Good luck to all in the field.
