Tenrikyo Looks Likely in The Pitcher Stakes

7/18/20

11   MTH      The Pitcher Stakes (GIII)

         $250.000            F&M 3yo&Up             1 1/16m  Dirt               3yo 119   Older 124

A six-pack of hot ladies will be headed to the gate on Saturday and we look at the field for The Pitcher Stakes (GIII) going a mile and a sixteenth here at MTH.  The Jersey Shore has been rockin’ this summer and this field should keep that idea going… and I’ve landed on Tenrikyo here today.  She was second in the BC Distaff (GI) last fall, and looked good winning at SA last out.  If she can run back to either of those, she should be in the winner’s circle.  I’m really stuck between Real Nice and Chill Out for the second spot… the prior coming off of a bit of a bump in the KY Oaks (GI) but I think the rest will do her some good.  If not, the later is in the Mb Stables arsenal and you always have to give those types a hard hard look.

All of these have a big shot so it should be a fun one.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Chill Out    Mb Stables    Court J K   119   7/2

Her last two came from north of the border where she won the Selene (GIII) and was a DH-second in the Trillium Stakes (GIII).  The big barn comes to win and she should be ready to fire another big one with this group.  I’d give her a big look.

2
   Purely A Dream    Nakamura Stables    Cedillo A   124   6/1

Purchased from the Dec Auction and has two starts, including an OptAlw win at SA last out, winning at a flat mile vs. N2X horses.  This is an obvious step up in class but her current form certainly warrants the shot.  She has tactical speed which is always a good thing.

3
   Real Nice    Allinthegate    Baze T C   119   7/2

Had her 4-race win streak snapped when she was sixth beaten a length at CD in the KY Oaks (GI).  She’s been rested since then and comes back with a trio of posted works, and should be a big part of this one.  If she runs back to either of those GIII wins, she should be a handful in this one.

4
   Tenrikyo    Smokey Stover    Bejarano R   124   5/2

This filly certainly knows how to get the job done, winning last out at SA taking the Santa Margarita (GII) in near wire-to-wire fashion.  She also won the Beldame (GII) in similar fashion, so I look for her to be at/on the lead here again today.  Six wins and nearly $2,000.000 in the bank… yeah, she’s a tough horse.

5
Flawed Justice    YME Stable    Beschizza A   119   6/1

Good effort in her first stakes try when second beaten a neck at WO in the WO OAKS for ON-bred ladies.  She had three wins in a row prior to that, so she’s never run a bad race and there’s no reason to think she will start now.  Could she pull an upset?

6
   Brave Assumption    Nakamura Stables    Gryder A T   119   4/1

Talk about a couple of tough beats… a nose back in the Selene (GIII) and then a neck back i the Mother Goose (GII).  She had the lead in both of those… she almost always has the lead because she is out of the gate and loves to be on the front end.  How far does she go today?
