Although this one has run on the turf it was a long time ago and she is far better known as a dirt racer these days. A consistent sort she has shown some improvement recently and has been stepping up to a decent grade such as a run in the Vinery Madison last time. Her dirt works are solid and the trainer knows how horses can show sometimes shocking improvement when suddenly changing surfaces at HRP so this may be another canny move from them. The draw and trip will suit and should allow her to stay a little closer to the early pace making her a chance to be a good bet at odds.
2 Rose Petals Mb Stables Gutierrez Mario
When a horse from this stable gets the perfect draw and has the sort of form this one has shown recently you have to put them near or at the top of any list of possible winners. Most of her recent runs have been as a deep closer off strong paces but she has shown early speed before (possibly thanks to the click and play instructions) so she may find this draw helps her stay a bit closer early on.
3 Rebel Girl Marijane Racing Stab Velazquez J R
A huge success story for the new stable she was claimed for just $3 then won a fair track $5 claimer and then made all to win the stables first stakes race in the Plenty Of Grace. It really is one of those special HRP stories of rag to riches and if she steps up again today to win this she will go down as the claim of the year.
4 Versailles D J C Racing Stables Vargas J A Jr
Ran a good three year old season and looked like she was set to continue that improvement as a four year old when running a strong third in the Buena Vista in March. She disappointed last time in the Royal Heroine Stakes but that was down to stalking a ridiculous pace so we can write that off as yet another AI failure. Back to her best and with a sensible race and she has a winning chance.
5 Paris Candy Glorify Stables Davis D
The winner of five from nine this one has shown all sorts of promise but whilst she has won two ungraded stakes her two efforts in graded stakes have left us scratching our heads. It may be that her class gene stops at ungraded at the moment or it may be just inexperience but there is no doubt she is a good miler as she proved with a strong recent work. If she is ready to take this step now she could well win but unless you get hold of her code then we wont know that until after this race.
6 Yankee Stadium Smokey Stover Franco M
The trainer has pretty much reached the top of the tree now and this is just another of the many many examples of how big bucks and some knowledge can dominate the game. A grade one winner and second in the BC Fillies and mares Turf last year she was bought for $1000 and duly won the American Oaks at the end of that year. This season has yet to bring a win but the fact that she has run three good races suggests that win isn’t far away.
7 Terra Command Threshold Lezcano J
A very consistent mare she gets an awkward draw today and tends to find one too good so she looks more of an each way prospect than a win chance. She was closing on Rebel Girl last time but was well held from a similar draw so she will need some race engine luck to get closer to her this time.
8 Makitas Halo Asgar Castellano J J
Another one of those that would be a HRP hack winner as she has been sprinting all her life apart from one go at a route and until recently hadn’t run on the turf. Her turf mile work was pretty good but any chance of an upset win may have gone with the wide draw. The stable is in good form though and at HRP you can never say they have no chance.
SUMMARY
A tight little race with some nice fillies and mares going round for a relative pittance. You would have to say Yankee Stadium looks the stand out here and nearly all of the big races have two stables in their results at the end so you have to say her to beat Rose Petals looks the most likely result.
