The Belle Tolls Remains Perfect in The Spinaway

The Spinaway (Grade 1)- $350.000 Purse
SAR- For Fillies Two Years Old
Seven Furlongs on the Dirt
September 1, 2019

Heading into the Spinaway, The Belle Tolls had been a perfect three-for-three. Most recently, she won the Grade 3 Schuylerville here at the beginning of the meet. Winning both of these races has become a common theme, as both Levi Broom (2017) and Love Struck Baby (2018) accomplished the feat. Now, in 2019, The Belle Tolls follows right along. Actually, both Levi Broom and Love Struck Baby also won the Astoria before coming to SAR, which The Belle Tolls also had won. Now, trainer Allinthegate will be hoping for a better BC Juvenile Fillies then either of them had. It’s the first time that the trainer has won in the race, though jockey J R Velazquez is now a four-time winner. Congratulations to them! The race was won in a time of 1:22.15, very similar to the last two races. Let’s take a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :23.13)- From the outside, Shot Of Reality jumps out to the early lead for trainer Mb Stables, and she has a lead of about a length and half early on. Behind her, in a comfortable stalking position is our eventual race winner, Allinthegate’s The Belle Tolls. She has company right to her outside in the form of Miss Tallmadge, from Fractious. Running fourth and running in the third lane is Interpoint, for Night Rider Stables, and Khloe (D J C Racing Stables) holds the rail, three lengths back. Beside her are Peacefully (Team 7 Illusions) and the post-time favorite, Uzume (Aer Stables). It’s a couple more lengths back to the trailer, How Trait (Gdp Inc).

(½ Mile- :46.36)- Shot Of Reality continues to lead all by herself down the backstretch, and moving into the turn. There’s a new second place challenger, though, and that is Interpoint, who aggressively pushed forward during the backstretch run, and is now within a length of the lead. The Belle Tolls is not bothered by Interpoint and continues to run her own pace, staying a length and a half from the lead. Her former running partner, Miss Tallmadge, however, dropped back two further lengths, and is now fifth. Khloe also got by her, and she now moves off the rail into the turn, and lurks to the outside of The Belle Tolls. Neither Uzume or Peacefully were making a move yet. How Trait is still at the back, but no longer has that two length gap between her and closest two.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Interpoint continues to carry her momentum into the turn, and by the time we hit the top of the stretch, she has taken over the top spot and has a length advantage. Shot Of Reality remained second, but they were lined up to her outside. The Belle Tolls came down pretty strongly on exit of the turn, but Khloe also seemed to move down at the same time, and was not impeded. Miss Tallmadge was right back in the mix with these two in the fourth lane, and Uzume was coming up the far outside. These four horses were all lined up, and were heads apart. Both Peacefully and How Trait were behind this wall, and had no where to go until things settled out ahead of them.

(Finish- 1:22.15)- Early in the stretch, it looked like Interpoint was in good shape, but The Belle Tolls showed her tremendous heart and desire and would catch Interpoint with a little less then a furlong to go. Possibly, Interpoint lost a little bit of her own run in the late stages, too. At the wire, The Belle Tolls gets the win by half a length, and continues to remain perfect for her career. Interpoint was a solid second, beating Miss Tallamdge for that spot. How Trait looked good once she had room to run, and that was enough to get her the fourth place check, beating Uzume for that position. Peacefully was next, beating Khloe, who lacked stretch response, and the tiring Shot Of Reality.

About the Winner- The Belle Tolls, trained by Allinthegate and ridden to victory by J R Velazquez, is a two year old filly by Perfect Command, and is out of Ask For More. She was bred in California by Allinthegate as a yearling, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! She is a perfect 4-for-4 in her career, with three stake wins, and two graded. Her career earnings are now $423.000.
