The Birdstone Draws Five Hopefuls

The Birdstone
SAR Race #6 1 1/2m Dirt Stake
Purse $200.000 (plus up to $30.00 for NY-breds) For Four Year Olds And Upward.

As an owner at HRP you always kick yourself when you enter a $100 stake and end up running against 12 rivals and then see a $200 race a few days later with just 5. This race brings together a field that is probably weaker than most allowances at SAR so the four trainers with runners here will be over the moon while the rest of us rue our choices.

1 Quick Response TwinTowersRacing Velazquez J R

It stands to reason this stable would be in here as they seem to have a foot in most doors these days. This is typical of the sort of horse that they own, one that has been highly tried but keeps getting that one more chance that may just pay off, and inevitably they do. A winner of just two races he has failed in both his attempts at higher grade races since the trainer claimed him but ran well enough in the Excelsior back in February to suggest the trainer may just sneak another one under the radar from the ace draw.

2 Kings Dominion Night Rider Stables Saez L

We all know this stable successes in claiming or buying cheap horses and turning them into stakes winners so this $5 purchase must rate a chance if the trainer feels they are ready for a race like this. He has always looked like 12 furlongs may suit him and though kept to lower grade for much of his career he has been very consistent. The perfect draw to do some damage he may struggle on his work times but should nevertheless be very competitive.

3 The Spider Gdp Inc Franco M

The trainer had the foresight to get two in this race so will go home with something regardless of where his horses finish. This six year old really doesn’t have the sort of form you would expect for a race like this but this field has come up very light and he may just be in the right place at the right time. A good all the way winner last time he is one of the few that has tried an extreme trip and he did well to be second in the Stud Muffin back in March. On his last effort i would expect the trainer to fire him out and hope he holds on and there isn’t much here that looks to have enough of a finish to beat him.

4 Money Truck Invicta Group Llc Prat F

As far as form goes you would have to make this the number one pick but the interesting thing is that ALL of his form is on the turf so that really throws a spanner in the works if you think he is the obvious choice. Very often we see dirt horses be able to win on turf but much less often we see it the other way round so there is a not of caution about throwing big wads of Disney Dollars down on this one. Having said that at HRP surface means far less than all the other little nuances so he would have to have a good chance.

5 Top Dat Gdp Inc Gaffalione T

Claimed for just $30 and pretty unsuccessful since on what he has done at the track you would have to say he has little chance. But here’s the thing. On the 6th July he worked a 1.36 and 1 mile out of the blue. Now all of his form is sprinting and suddenly he throws a work like that…..mmmm…i feel this is another of those little ‘hacks’ waiting to happen. It will be all my Disney Dollars on this one to win and i hope the silly Odds Monkeys have him at 50/1.

SUMMARY

I have been made to look a fool many times so take my enthusiasm with a pinch of salt but i reckon Top Dat could win here. I will even go as far to say as Gdp Inc may get a one two with The Spider. Money Truck is the best in the field but may not be on dirt and the other two have the draw so it is by no means an easy race to pick the winner.
