The Champion Treats This Race Like Its Just a Game

The Just A Game – Grade I
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $700.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

Well I billed this as the race that will sort out the best turf miler in the fillies and mares ranks and it was fitting that the champion of last year put all the pretenders firmly into their place. Here is how they ran:

1st Attraction, trained by Mm Racing

At the start of the season you could’ve been forgiven for thinking this filly had boiled over after a huge three year old season. A little off colour in her first two races she won the CD Distaff Turf Mile by a determined half-length but still looked a tick off her best for of 2014. That all changed today as this majestic filly got onto the lead and destroyed one of the best fields you can get for this category. Winning by three lengths you have to now look towards a double BC triumph and a place in the hall of fame.

2nd Mentioned Honourably, trained by Mb Stables

Of course with such a clear winner everything else finished in a heap in true HRP style so none of the remaining trainers will have much idea where they stand in the ranking behind this wonder filly. Stalking the lead this filly kept on really well to be second but never looked like beating the winner.

3rd Flash For Cash, trained by Sanny Village

Was taken back as expected and ran on pretty well for third. She has now been beaten twice by Attraction and I am sure her trainer will be doing their best to avoid a third clash.

4th Risen Queen, trained by D J C Racing Stables

Got in a good enough position but failed to reproduce her excellent run in the CD Distaff. The reason for that will be found somewhere in a locked hard drive so I am not going to try and explain it other than to say her trainer too will be looking to avoid a third clash with Attraction this season.

5th In Dreams, trained by Night Mare Racing

Never really figured after holding decent position early on but finished in the ruck behind the winner so this run will have told us nothing about where she is in relation to this grade.

6th Evervescent, trained by Threshold

With the speed holding up as it did I am pretty sure her trainer will be kicking themselves for restraining this speedy filly who never looked happy looking at the rear of others.
