$150.000 2yoF 1 1/8m Dirt 2yo 120lbs +penalties
We catch a nice field of ten two-year-old fillies set to go a mile and an eighth in The Demoiselle (GII) and a look towards next year’s KYO. I’m going with the chalk in this one and have Hot Summer as my top choice. She just missed in the BC Juv F (GI) and has been close in a number of other graded races… she just stands heads above this group, to me. I’ll give Mb Stables a shot and put Hawaii County in the second spot. She’s not run in a stakes since being purchased two starts back, but you know this outfit comes with guns a blazin’.
Here’s The Field –
Made it back-to-back wins breaking maiden at GG then taking an ONT-bred stakes at WO. She also shows a runner-up effort sprinting on the turf at GG so she shows ability on any surface, sprinting or going two turns. I’d give her a look in this one as well.
She’s never really run a bad race in her four starts, breaking maiden down on SoFla and just missing on the lawn at PRX last out while facing Alw company. This is her first swing at black-type, and the distance may be just what she wants.
Back-to-back wins at KEE proves this one to have some real ability as she broke maiden then followed that up with a nice victory in the Songbird. She steps up to graded horses and extends the distance today but she’s bred well and looks the part.
A pair of runner-up starts since changing hands (again) and Mb moves her up off of those two KY Alw efforts, one at KEE and one over the CD surface. She has speed and that is always a nice thing to have, but can she reserve a bit for the run to the wire?
A pair of stakes runner-up placings from three starts after being tagged for $23.500, so you have to like the way she’s been going. This is another step up in class, so she will need her best to go with these, but she does seem to have some ability.
She’s a couple lengths from being at the top of her class, as she has been right there in a number of graded stakes and looks to get the job done here. She missed by a nose in the BC Juv F (GI) after having the lead late in that one. She has also just missed in the Adirondack (GII), Pocahontas (GIII) and Alcibiades (GI)… you get the picture.
Broke maiden last out and really hasn’t run a bad race, never worse than fourth. With that tiring second place finish vs. MSW at ELP at a mile, and the fact that she won going 6f, you have to wonder if a mile and an eighth is her best distance at this juncture.
Broke maiden in her second start but has struggled since then with a fourth place finish in the Natalma Stakes (GI) at WO being her best effort after the win. They are moving her from the grass, which she saw in her last pair of starts, back to the main track. Does that wake her up?
Broke maiden at HAW going a route and she did it with ease, getting home by four. This is obviously a huge step up from that, but it’s a sharp barn that usually knows where to spot their horses. They must like her to come back in this one.
Stable-mate to the nine horse and has a pair of wins from five stats, including a last out win at SA vs. Alw horses going 6f. That’s the extent of her distance, so it’s interesting to see her set to go a mile and an eighth today.
Broke maiden at first asking over the MNR turf and she did it with ease winning by two going 5f on a good course. They go right after the gusto here and catch the outside post on top of everything else. If she can win from here, she’s for real.
