Doubledogdare Stakes Looks an Open Race

Doubledogdare Stakes – Grade III
KEE Race #1 1 1/16m Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $150.000 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward.

1 Neds Assets The Sidley Stud Graham J

This relatively lightly raced mare had a great season last year winning the grade three Pitcher Stakes in just a five race season where she didn’t place out of the first three all year. Her only start this year saw a wide draw and a fair run when she stayed on late to place sixth in the Royal Delta. I have a feeling this mare is grossly under rated and i think she may just be the dark horse in this race.

2 Southern Two Step The Sidley Stud Geroux F

A consistent filly it amazes me that she didn’t win a race last year however she has found her feet again this year and took the ungraded Heavenly Prize last time out. The second stable entry they got a great deal from the draw machine with the inside two gates and either one of these girls could take the prize.

3 Puerto Princesa Paradise Stable Albarado R J

When this filly won the MTH Oaks last year i really felt that the stable had found a superstar but since then like so many horses from smaller stables she seems to have degregated at alarming speed. After that win she ran well in the Cotillion when sixth but since then has struggled to make much of any impression at lower grades. If there is going to be a resurgence it will be today as this is the same trip she ran her lifetime best races, i hope that is the case but hope may be her best chance.

4 Fair On Friday Gdp Inc Beschizza A

This filly took advantage of the three year old situation against older horses by being the shock winner of the Spinster last year a win that shot her into the BC picture. She got a horrible draw in the BC Distaff but still ran very well to be seventh and looked like the sort of up and comer that would do well at four. Her seasonal debut however was pretty average but she bounced back to win a decent allowance last time out and looks to be in good form.

5 Dab Ney BomBay Stables Doyle S

Her works say she is better than a free tracker but her form since taking on pay company has not borne that out.

6 Puddle Jumper Mb Stables Saez G

This daughter of Commanding looks to be a great chance to change the fortunes of her trainer in this. She took a fair while to break her maiden but when she did she went quickly from long term maiden to stakes contender running third in the Seaway Stakes. Since then she hasn’t exactly exploded on the scene but has started this year well with a good third in the Royal Delta before a game win in the Henson Handicap. Her works are good and draw is fair so she should run well.

7 Hollywood Sister Winning Link Stables Hernandez B

Bought fairly cheaply at auction for a stakes performer her 1.36 and 2 mile work suggests she may just prove to be an excellent purchase. She only failed by a nose in the Locust Grove over this trip last year suggesting she has the ability and her recent works suggest there is plenty of improvement after her seasonal debut in lesser company.

8 Eye Test Axeman Lanerie C J

A lot of the best form in this race is drawn wide and this filly is no exception. Claimed at the end of last year she went from being beaten in that claimer to winning the Comely at grade three the sort of thing we see all too often at HRP. She proved that win was not the fluke that it looked by then placing twice at grade two this season and in her last start ran very well in the Azeri. She is certainly one of the top choices for this race but this draw may prove tricky with so much good form around her.

9 Fabulous Angelina Allinthegate Bridgmohan S X

I would say this is probably the best form filly in the race and as her only start this year brought her a strong win in the Royal Delta over this trip. The two big negatives though are the draw and the fact that she carries a 2Lb penalty which in most cases at HRP amounts to a very large brick wall.

SUMMARY

I think Hollywood Sister may just have enough to win but i do think that Neds Assets maybe a bit of a lively runner from the inside draw.
