1 Set In Space Nakamura Stables Cohen D

One felt it was the sire that caused Nakamura Stables to pay $70 after this one won its maiden but the decision was proved to be an astute one when the horse went on to place third and fourth in the WV and BC Derby’s. In both those races he was well placed but couldn’t quicken and whilst he is entitled to improvement that is a worry again. His works aren’t saying he is improving but he wont have to to be a big factor in this.

2 Real Quiet Night Rider Stables Santana R Jr

You have to admire how this trainer can find them in the claimers but even though this one s working like a star the bulk of his form says he will struggle. Having said that he is drawn the two box which can work magic sometimes just like his trainer.

3 Stolen D J C Racing Stables Hernandez B J Jr

Followed up an impressive maiden win with a good allowance win before a hiccup over a sprint trip and then a return to winning last time out. As long as that hiccup doesn’t mean he hasn’t got the required class gene then his form has improver written all over it and with this draw he can certainly make his presence felt.

4 Magne Account RNP Stables Bisono J

This one has certainly got the experience for a race like this having finished third in the Brooklyn back in June. In recent years though he has found winning tough and whilst he has every right to be in this finish he may just find one or two quicker than him.

5 Unbridled Passion Mb Stables Franco M

This one went from an optional claimer to victory in the BC Derby so we can safely assume that the trainers magic wand is still going strong. His form before that win was pretty good at overnight level but many struggle to go from there to stakes class whereas he did it in good style. So we know he has the class gene and we know he is improving so this race may be as simple as pick him. HRP is never simple though.

6 Orion Nebula John Henry Contreras L

Inconsistency has been this ones enemy as he has mixed his form up so much i really don’t know what to make of him. The winner of the SA Derby he then ran poorly in the TC races before bouncing back with a great fourth in the Haskell. Since then however he has been back to his frustrating best with two poor efforts in the Travers and The Dandy. He could run well or he could run badly, we wont know until the dust settles.

7 Chai Morning Aer Stables Talamo J

The Preakness winner was a good third in the Haskell but a little disappointing in the Jones Stakes last time out. That defeat however can be blamed on the draw and the choice to go way back which tends to happen from wide draws so the second place whilst costing the punters money wasn’t so bad to think that he was at the end of his season. He certainly has the form and class to win this the question will be how will he find his favored spot from the squeeze box.

8 Catch A Buzz Maxmillion Farm Mejias R

Bought for just thirty dollars this trainer like Mb Stables can seem to turn average looking horses into superstars and since acquiring him he has picked up some nice money. His last two races have been on turf but prior to that he has looked pretty good on the dirt. The draw is tough and he is not the best on form but he could easily run well.

10 Sky Dust Nakamura Stables Saez L

The second from the yard and maybe on exposed form the better of the two. Second in the BC Derby last time he had previously been fourth in the Secretariat from a wide draw so clearly has ability matched with the ability to change his running styles to match the draw, an important trait here at HRP. If the racing engine gives him a chance he could well be another wide draw winner.

11 Having A Blast Mb Stables Court J K

Talking of second entries and wide runners this is the second from Mb Stables and also on form looks the better of the runners.Third in the Gold Cup, the winner of the Suburban Handicap and then third in the Pacific Classic is very good form for a race like this. Like the runner inside him he will need the race engine on his side to get a run but if it is then he has a definite winning chance.

SUMMARY

This is a bit like a handicap with the best three horses on form drawn wide and therefore getting a significant handicap. On form you would have to go for Having A Blast or Chai Morning but that wide draw makes your selection subject to luck so it may pay to go inside for safer bets. Unbridled Passion should go well and Set In Space could well get an easy run.
