Hendrie Stakes – Grade III

6 1/2 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $150.00 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st        Chase The Money       Avenue Z           Wilson E J                        1:15.42            

A solid pace throughout allowed this mare to show her best with a  strong and much deserved win. She has been consistently ‘up there’ in these types of races but it has been a long time since she got a win despite some good efforts. Travelling off the speed as usual the collapse from the leaders saw her pick them up well and then she was too strong to the line winning by just under a length.

2nd       Dusty Heart                  SamIam             Moran D                          1:15.61

Started as the odds on favorite and went to the front at an even pace so it was probably expected that she would have enough at the end to hold on. In the end though just like her last run she didn’t find enough when challenged but was game to hold on to second. 

3rd        Kill The Lycan D J C Racing Stables Walcott R W                  1:15.64

Stalked the pace and was in a good enough position but just wasn’t good enough in the end. A decent effort though    and this effort was probably up there with her best form.

4th        Blue Velvet      First Flight Stable        Moran P                            1:15.85             

Pushed the early pace but couldn’t assert and in the end faded into fourth. A fair effort by a solid four year old who may find some improvement as she moves toward being a five year old.

I wouldn’t normally do this but a special mention for fifth placed finisher Lady Sammyantha as this may be the last time I can talk about her. The eight year old is a two time winner of the BC Sprint and came within a neck last year of making it an historic treble. She has been a wonderful mare for the stable and the true racing fan here at HRP and whilst she still may win a race before she retires I feel this may be the last we see her. I hope she goes to the paddocks and finds a match that continues the wonderful career she has had.
