The Hilton Memorial Goes Downwind

Hilton Memorial
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $100.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

The Hilton Memorial turned into an improbable thriller with a three way photo finish which is so common in small field at HRP. Here is how they finished:

1st Sports Book, trained by Downwind Stable

Bought at auction for just thirty five dollars this colt made it two from two for his new owner with a hard fought nose win. Travelling in behind the two leaders he struggled to get to them and had to fight every yard to get up. This was a game win for the improving sort who looks like he may get a mile as well as sprint pretty well.

2nd Master Chef, trained by D J C Racing Stables

Did not look as good as some of these on paper but when he kicked into a clear lead at the furlong pole he looked like he may win. Faltering close home he just got worried out of it and I feel that six furlongs may be his optimum trip. A good effort for this first go at Stakes Company.

3rd Spirit Of Italy, trained by Drabfantasy

Looked to beat the boys today and very nearly did it. Held up in rear she ran home very strongly and only just failed to get to the first two. This was a nice effort and I expect to see her return to fillies company with a big run next time.

4th Bring In Da Funk, trained by Threshold.

Beaten four length in the FL Derby and beaten five lengths today as he trailed in last after showing early speed. I have no idea what this means for this horse who promises far more than he delivers.
