The Inaugural Untapable Stakes Runs at KD Sunday

The Untapable Stakes ($500.000 Purse)
KD- For Fillies Two Year Old
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
September 12, 2021

For the first time, The Untapable Stakes will be run here at HRP, and it was somewhat of a late addition to the stakes schedule. There are very few opportunities of this stature for the two year fillies on the grass, and even though this is not a graded stake, it’s large purse and influence on the BC in about three months makes it very appealing. It will draw a field of seven, most of whom have never raced in a race like this. Someone will get bragging rights for winning the first Untapable, and here are the ones that will give it a go!

#1- Inola (Our Athletes, ridden by J R Velazquez)- Last raced three weeks ago in an optional claimer at DMR. She won the race, putting her at two for three in her career. Like everyone else in this field, there is not a whole lot to go by as they move forward here. Inola has been near the front in each of her starts thus far, and that probably continues here.

#2- Shandy (Arindel, ridden by Mar Garcia)- Last month, Shandy ran in the $120.000 Bolton Landing at the Spa and never really factored in the end result. Did just miss the check in that fifth place effort. Still has just her maiden win to speak of, but a great work at the beginning of the month at SAR shows the type of potential she has.

#3- Rapturous (Mb Stables, ridden by E Jaramillo)- Purchased in the June auction for $8.010 and made her debut at ELP three weeks, and she was quite impressive. Rapturous went right out to the lead, and went wire to wire, leading by two lengths from start to finish. She’s put right out there, and it’s noted that she will have six works but races within thirty days at post time. Will that matter?

#4- I Hear Ya (Nakamura Stables, ridden by V R Carrasco)- Yes, I put the jockey’s name in before I even looked, and not surprising the trainer and jockey hook up again. I Hear Ya has won one of the three races, coming at FE in July. Last month, she fared well at the $125.000 Catch A Glimpse Stakes, placing fourth, and hopes to build on that here.

#5- Amy Is Shameful (La Canada Racehorses, ridden by Mario Gutierrez)- This filly comes out of the Bolton Landing as well, and she fared better than Shandy in that race. After setting the pace, she ended up third in a three way photo. Had she won, it would have been her third in a row. About two weeks before that, she won the $100.000 Keswick Stakes at CNL. Had a great work at DMR recently, and looks like the one to beat here, though it is very much an up for grabs race.

#6- Radicchio (First Flight Stable, ridden by F Geroux)- Last month, this filly ran in a maiden claiming race at SAR, and picked up the win. It was her third career start, and clearly something happened there or since to see a big jump in class. She was working well leading into it and has not been worked since then on a public basis.

#7- Rambunctious (Mb Stables, ridden by T Gaffalione)- This Fire N Fury filly will race away from California for the first time in her career. Thus far, she has won one of her three starts, and comes here off of the CTBA Stakes at DMR, where she placed sixth. Now, she is going to head to the grass for the first time but she has been working regularly on it as of late.

Prediction: 5-1-3-2
