The Iowa Oaks Looks a Very Close Affair

The Iowa Oaks – Grade III
PRM   Race #1   1 1/16m   Dirt   Graded Stake
Purse $200.00  For Fillies Three Years Old.

1 Fleeting Affair, trained by Mb Stables
A win in the Davona Dale at grade two level put this filly right into the KYO picture.
Her next start in the GP Oaks was a little less encouraging but the wide gate speed
push put her right on the speed early on and she burnt out to be fifth. She made the KY
Oaks field and was nicely positioned in the stalk before fading badly to be a well beaten
sixth. The evidence of those last two runs suggest to me that a mile is as far as she wants
to go so unless she is restrained today i expect a similar situation in the last furlong.

2 White Bikini, trained by Luz International
After running well in competitive overnights she improved out of all recognition to win
the Hilltop Stakes in a very fast time. With seemingly very little difference in her
preparation or race set up that was either a classic HRP random run or she has improved
about three lengths in the last few weeks. This race will give us a much clearer picture
as to what is happening with this filly but if her last work is anything to go by she may
continue her rise to the top today.

3 Laff Night Out, trained by Buddhabase
Continued her good two year old form into her three year old season with two good early wins.
In the second of those she won the Suncoast Stakes and looked to be on target for the KYO. Her
next start was in the FG Oaks where she ran well to be third and then probably her best run so far
came in the grade one Ashland where she got pretty close in finishing fourth. It all fell apart in
her last run where she was very weak in The Black Eyed Susan Stakes and it is that run that worries
me as to her chances today. On her best form she is right in this, especially if you forget that
last start.

4 Call Me Lucky, trained by Mb Stables
Second to Laff Night Out in The Suncoast Stakes she went on to run two super races in the SUN
Oaks and the SA Oaks on her way to the KYO. On her very close second in the SA Oaks she was
entitled to run a big race in the KY Oaks but after stalking the early lead she faded into
eleventh. She had a confidence booster in an overnight last time and is another who would be right
in this if she can regain her best form.

5 Stellar, M.b.o Racing Stable
Made it three in a row with a very impressive win in The Critical Eye last time but this is a
much more competitive race and she will find it tough to make it four in a row. Her work times
are within a tenth of the best so she has every chance but she wouldnt be the obvious choice.

6 Effortless Admiral, trained by Ekli Stables
This is another filly that has been knocking around the best all year with some success. She
started the year off with a win in The Busanda and then stormed home lat to be second in the
Davona Dale. She did the same in the FG Oaks coming from a fair way back to be fifth and then
in her last start did it again in the Black Eyed Susan when a very nice second. It will be her
running style that make the difference today but with a few on pace runners who may have trouble
seeing out the trip she could, if she gets a clear run, come right over the top of them.

7 Jewel In The Sand, trained by Our Athletes
Bought for $350 from Mb Stables she hasnt won since but has run some very good races. She
won the grade one Starlet under Mb as a two year old and started off in her new stable with a
good third in the Bourbonete Oaks. In her next start she was beaten less than a length in third
from a horror draw in The Eight Bells and in her last start ran pretty well to be seventh in The Acorn.
The outside draw is not going to help her with so many on pace runners but once again she has the
form and the works to be right in this at the end.

SUMMARY

Once again we have seven fillys all working within a tenth of each other and all beating each other
with no clear form line that has stuck. So it will all come down to trip and jockey as to who wins
this lottery. There are a few non stayers in the field so i am going for a late finish to win the race
from either White Bikini or Effortless Admiral.
